I've got a lot of family from Ireland, some of who now live in manchester and ive got to admit i do admire what the IRA did in all honesty.

Would I say that in public? Perhaps not, but I do feel that way, can't help it really.

There have been a couple of occasions within this thread when you have a) proclaimed your point of view to be the most accurate and b) ridiculed the point of view of others.

Credentials please.

Certainly, studied this topic for 2 years at school, among other things. I've never said I was the most accurate, but I do know a great deal more than the average person.

And to say ethnic cleasing occurs anywhere in the UK, is truly a laughable statement. Apart from that I haven't ridiculed anyone.

2 years at school. Brilliant. There's a running theme on Bluemoon this afternoon, and it involves young men making fundamental socio-political decisions about the lives of millions of people from their mum and dad's house in Droylsden.

When I was growing up (not that long ago) everyone had opinions about what they thought was going wrong in Ireland, South Africa or the Middle East. The only difference was that we had the self awareness to know that we knew fuck all about it really.

I see above that the guy you questioned has the credentials to back his statement (rightly or wrongly). You sir, do not.

Just the way they stood up to one of the worlds greatest armies, after all the years of abuse and surpression they put up with, they had to do something, doing nothing wasn't an option and I thought they done it quite well.

Remember if it wasn't for the British Army and the black and tans, the IRA would never have existed.

I do think peace is the right way to go now though.

I've spent the last 4 days in Sourh Armagh and met several people with first hand knowledge of the IRA and how it operated during the troubles. Seems to me that various the brigades waged a highly effective guerilla war against a well resourced modern army.

The tactics of some operations and the bravery of the volunteers involved is regarded highly by many military historains, and when you look at the country, and the security that was in place, it's not hard to see why.

I'm glad the war is over and have nothing but disgust for the dregs that killed Paul Quinn and those few that became thugs and worse afterwards. But when you look clearly at the IRA as a fighting force, it's hard not to have some respect.
you have some respect for them ,would you sit and say that to anybody who lost a member of there family to a car bomb why out shopping.
any respect they deserve or dont deserve ends when innocent people die and they gloat and say we planted car bomb whoopee

You admire an organisation that blew up innocent people, I lost a family member in the troubles and nearly lost a 3 year old niece in the Warrington bombing, so in all honesty I think your a knob, I can't help but feel that way, I can't help it really, and I would say it in public.

Up to you mate.

Do you support the British Army? Or do you hate them too because they've blown up innocent people? If so fair enough. But I aint gonna change my views just because someone gets hysterical at me.
