The Kendall period at City

I remeber having a bit of a set to with Mr Kendall in 1990 before the Millwall away game.

I went down as a guest of the London Branch and stayed at the players hotel before the game.At about 3 in the morning we returned to the hotel to see Frizz and Kendall sat at a table drinking with some other people I cant say I knew.Frizz had a pint pot half full of Whisky!

Kendall suggested a Q & A be started and although I was pissed I thought well Im not the worst here so I asked Kendall that considering it was now 4 in the morning how did he intend to motivate the team in a few hours for such a big game.Well, all hell broke lose which I wont go into in detail(Kendall inferred that I Masturbated a lot)but suffice to say we werent then welcome at the table.
There are other things that I saw that night that could not believe which I had a good laugh about at the next day with Tina the Branch Secretary at the match.

I have to say the next morning I saw Kendall at around 10am in the lobby and he didnt look as if he had touched a drop!

I saw it all and remember it all, from start to finish.

The start was at The Dell. Can't quite remember where Howard Kendall had arrived from on the day, but he'd gone into a guesthouse on Archers Road and had a quick shave before marching up the road and into the ground.

On the Friday before he left, I was at the AGM when, towards the end, an old bloke got up and asked Swales if there was any truth in the rumours that Howard Kendall would be leaving for Everton. The old bloke was drowned out by a cacophony from the floor along the lines of "sit down you silly old fool" from a combination of Swales' inner caucus - who always sat at the front of these meetings - and those who couldn't even consider that it might be a reality. In the event the question was never answered by Swales or Kendall.

The answer came early the following week and I remember being in The Nelson in Didsbury with several Blues, all of whom were shocked and devastated. Never before or since can I recall a City manager leaving causing such consternation.

good thread this i remember when kendall left and my older brother and my mum slagging him off to fook and i work with a lot of evertonians now and still get stick for kendall going back to his wife after his affair with his mistress
he bought one of my favourite players in niall quinn and my dad who is a rag still says if kendall stayed we'd be the ones winning all the trophies in the 90s but as usual with city its what if but fuck it instead i got to see city scrape a draw against northampton and now on the verge of bigger and better things under the sheikies

Very interesting thread this.

Yes, these are the best kinds of threads on Bluemoon.

Yep, excellent thread. I remember driving home in my van after a hard days graft hearing the news on the radio; nearly crashed the fucker, wasn't expected at all!......saying that I was gutted when Kendall sold my favourite player at the time Ian Bishop.

Howard Kendall was a two faced twat. If he was so bloody good what did he achieve after he left City?

-- Sun Jun 27, 2010 12:25 pm --

Didn't Kendal sell Andy Hincliffe to the Toffees only to follow him there a matter of weeks later??

He did although he did sign Dissa (Neil Pointon) as a replacement who became a bit of a cult hero. Especially when he almost cut Giggs in two a year or so later.

He played five at the back to stop us losing, then we seemed to draw every game 1-1, and eventually with a handful of games to go we started winning and it saved us.

Swales was Chairman of the FA International Committee so he was in charge of appointing the England manager, so that is a good reason why Kendal ruled himself out early.

Kendalls signings and the impact they made.

1) Peter Reid - possibly his most important signing on a free from QPR
2) Alan Harper - the Trio man played as a sweeper stopped us leaking goals
3) Mark Ward - Busy industrious player but never a fans favourite
4) Adrian Heath - Did a job but never forgiven after missing a sitter against United.
5) Wayne Clarke - I think he scored a goal away at Forest once?
6) Niall Quinn - Whilst Reid was the most important signing this was possibly the best?
7) Tony Coton - Likewise with above
8) Mark Brennan - Remember him scoring at Maine Road against Norwich but that's about it - looked cultured but never saw enough of him?
9) Neil Pointon - replacement for Hinchcliffe.

I think that's it but if anyone remembers anymore please add.
