'THE KIPPAX' - Why are no Etihad stands called this?

Probably because we don't want connecting with Leeds and West Yorkshire.

Here's a gem from Google.

  • The Kippax (Football):
The Kippax is also the name of a stand at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium, named after Kippax Street, which in turn was named after the town of Kippax, West Yorkshire.

I'm not sure why the resistance to this idea. The Kippax is iconic and beloved fan name of a stand.
There are no rules to what something is known as.
Folk mentioning Kiippax St like it's incredulous to import that name are ridiculous.
It's just geography. How many took home pieces of the old Maine Rd turf to put in their gardens? Is that grass still the same now?
It's symbolic, like most things in life.
Anyway, I vote in favour of bringing back the name, and I would class myself at a lowly 10% on the MCFC nostalgia scale.

109/110 and 111 have been referred to as the Kippax corner for years.

Always thought that was great and fair play to them for continuing it on.

For me it's the use of rhe word 'The' as a prefix that gave 'The Kippax' such power and identity. Just like the The Kop. When a stand is the east stand or Platt Lane End it doesn't have any where near the power.

I could imagine it being a huge focal point of the stadium if the East Stand was renamed 'The Kippax' and the story continued for generations.

Thanks mate. 7 pages in and you're the first one! Thought people might like the idea of it! Turns out I was wrong. For me there's a big story there thats positive. It could and should live on in my view.

I'm sure it was originally known as "The Popular Side" when it first opened in 1923, but was re-named in the 1950s when a roof was added to one of the largest terraces in the country.
The Popular Side! That takes me back a few decades. Most grounds had a "popular side", as opposed to where the toffs sat, in the main stand.
I've not heard the expression for many a long year.

Also - what was unique about 'The Kippax' is it was along the side. No other club had that. We should carry that on. If the East Stand was renamed 'The Kippax' it would give us something no one else has. I'd put safe standing all along the bottom tier of the east stand and rename it.

It'll look great on the telly

Think you'll find Burnley, Birmingham City, Derby, Swansea, Cardiff to name a few had their main" ends" on the side. But the Kippax was the daddy of them all.
Should have called the west stand the Stretford End pissed the rags off royally.

Because the vast majority of fans and the owners don't care, I would hazard a guess that more than 50% of the attending fans at the Etihad could not name all 5 stands at Main Road.
Now there's an idea why don't we have a Gene Kelly stand? I might just get my own thread :-}

"You'll never take the Kippax!"
