When you watch this video, you get a proper feel for the sheer size of the Kippax 50seconds in when the United lad crosses it in and you the The Kippax in the background
What a stand it was!
“Mind yer car sir” dog shit alley, windy corner, Gene Kelly, ‘covonia kills coughs’ ‘commit no nuisance, Klix beefy bovril, smell of piped tobacco, piss running down the terrace, Kung fu stars, darts, “ we can see you sneaking out” “you’re going home in a fucking ambulance” burnt scarf, plastic falcon, “Bring on the champions”The flickering light bulb. Happy days!
Wonder what year the singing section started. When I used to go in the Fletchers Arms, Ian Niven showed me a photograph taken at the City v Stoke FA Cup match in 1934. (The one where we had no fans at - only 84,569 bothered to turn up). It shows the (then) roofless stand taken from the pitch side. Almost everyone there was wearing a flat cap, except one. He was wearing a bowler hat!
For 10 years from the mid 60s to the mid 70s, I stood in the middle of the singing section at the top of the stand, then grew up and moved to above the tunnel on the right of the half way line.
I now sit in EL304 in almost exactly the same spot, between the half way line and the edge of the penalty area. The view is a lot better, though.
These were the ringleadersWonder what year the singing section started.
Yes and Burnley, Birmingham and Swansea to name three probably several more.Didn’t Huddersfield’s old ground have a similar stand?

That happens every week nowI expect that there will be a few on here who can remember that swell of pride and achievement the first time they started a chant in the Kippax.
We won't mention the embarrassment we felt when we tried to start a chant and it died on it's arse...
