The Labour Government

On the same day the Rail Nationalisation bill becomes law.

RW media have been sitting on this for ages. Robot Reeves will be happy when she's replaced by another robot.
I saw something yesterday, I think it was elsewhere that she was at HSBC and received a stern warning for her expenses there which quite a few were fiddling.

Shortly afterwards she had an extraordinary amount of doctors/dentist appointments which when followed up on it turned out she was doing party work causing her to resign.... allegedly.

If that was true I expect it to hit proper media shortly.

I was really hoping that this lot would be honest and legitimate, suppose there's skeletons everywhere.

so we solve it all by bolting the door shut then asking those here already to leave then to get the work they do done by us Brits you abolish cheap labour by massively increasing pay thus massively increasing inflation and we build loads more houses which will be far more expensive as materials and labour costs will be massively up so to make them affordable the wages of prospective buyers will have to massively increase ........ one huge sentence by which I illustrate why 3 word slogans are meaningless.
I don't think people are actually against immigration, a major part of it is with the 'type' of people coming. That comes from the continued post-Brexit sentiment of xenophobia and now the new rejection of multi-culturalism.

It started years ago with the perception that people in Europe were coming and taking our jobs, the jobs that we couldn't be arsed to do anyway. It's just founded in a complex mess of racism, stupidity but also successive years of government mismanagement of immigration policy versus what is actually needed.

I still have to ask why on earth people would want to come here. The weather is shite, the pay is shite, the working conditions are shite and a significant number of the people here are moaning bastards who hate immigrants.

I was born here and if Australia, Norway or Canada came calling then my bags would be packed!

I wouldn’t say successive Govts have mismanaged immigration. The numbers that come here do so because there are jobs to be filled. It is supply and demand.

Brexit was always going to increase immigration because being in the EU allowed us to draw upon a larger labour pool that retains the ability to move back and forth without impediment. Additionally, once you close off that flexible labour pool and erect barriers to movement you incentivise immigrants to stay.

Railing against immigration or vowing to reduce numbers is akin to trying to prove the earth is flat. The numbers will always reflect demand and need. Trying to artificially suppress the numbers will lead to labour shortages and further depress the economy. The quickest ‘fix’ to reducing numbers would be to remove overseas students from the figures. Alternatively, we can damage the educational sector and encourage overseas students to go elsewhere and we should never underestimate the British desire for self-harm :)

Ridiculous someone resigns over something they got a conditional discharge for over a decade ago.

No wonder any normal person doesn’t want to go into Westminster politics.

Aye, although back in the day politicians used to resign over such minor matters or for having a love child with their secretary. These days we make them PM.

Isn’t the problem those that come to work bring family members who don’t work but still use our services.

May have the numbers wrong but believe for every worker there are two non workers

Is the nationalisation of the railways a good or bad thing?
Good if they did it properly.

This bill is a fudge in some ways. The companies that own rolling stock haven't been brought in, nor the Trainline who are talking millions out of the industry whilst selling illegal tickets forcing passengers to pay again.

You can take the lass out of Sheffield....

:)

If she was a Tory even if those allegations are proven they wouldn't resign.

Firstly, immigrants keep our services going. Health care, social care all rely on immigrant labour.

Secondly, immigrants contribute more to the fiscal ledger than they cost, families included. We’ve been importing labour since the year dot and the arguments against it are like Groundhog Day.

The weird thing is the UK integrates immigrants far better than most European nations. You only have to look at recent and current political party leaders in England, Scotland and Wales to see that.

We’re a funny old lot at times :)

Lots of catching up to get to the level that the tories stooped to.
