The Labour Government

The only thing i would say is the minister for prisons who I believe is Lord Timpson should surely be aware of this large increase in prisoners being wrongly released.
He got the job in July last year.
I think the prison service.is struggling and its a big task to get it right. Not releasing a wrong un would seem to be one of the easier parts of the job surely?
I've heard a fair bit from Lammy but not him, has he said anything?

Yeah I agree. I wouldn’t be surprised if the early release scheme has led to some of the rise in those wrongly released, which might be why he’s keeping quiet!

It’s all so immediate nowadays too, when we really need to have governments thinking much more longer term if anything.
Exactly. There is a relentlessness that is dragging everybody into the footballification of politics, giving people little time to think about what is actually needed and forcing quick fixes to keep the public onside.

I’ve mentioned before that I’ve never seen it like this, where all types of media are fighting to get their message out, and when the majority of them are from the right of politics, including the Americanisation from SM channels, real understanding and proper planning are no longer bastion of UK politics.

Desperate times, if Labour don't turn this country's fortunes round nobody will. You gotta pray they will.
Take a lesson from Plaid.

They campaigned on pride in your community and bringing the country up rather than down.

Stop reacting to the fascist Frogface **** and offer positive change that will drown the bastard and the cunts that follow it.

Who tried to score political point though? Lammy. Blames austerity blah blah blah.

Yet within a day they introduce a new process to fix it. So it didn’t require years of investment to fix or anything other than a simple new process….. which they could have done the day they got in to power. Lammy wants to make it political so let’s make it political.
Tories had 14 years to fix it. Of course the shortage of prison staff is political.

I think "prison sources" have already said it might be a factor. What the stats don't say is whether those wrongly released were (e.g.) someone due to be deported or someone who should have been released on Monday who was released on Friday.

Nuance? We’re a long way away from that at the mo ;)

I’d like to hope that Labour begin to realise transparency is the first step and their only way to counter the general narrative, even if it means admitting mistakes.

It’s not just transparency, it’s not trying to win the banter war on social media. Just leave the bots to do their thing and not be influenced by them.

It’s easy to get succoured in by the constant trolling, but rising to that gets nobody anywhere.

Ignore it to the hilt(s)

Look for the progressive, positive things that can drag our country forward, not let the boaty mcboatface banter cynical narrative win.

It’s got to be rooted in transparency, that’s how you get trust that then enables you to say the progressive positive things. It has to start from a point of realism.

Completely agree about don’t fight the bots, not directly. Transparency does it in itself if they’re brave enough to do it. I don’t think they’ve got any other choice now either, the one thing Labour have proved so far since being back in power is they are absolutely shit at politics so fighting the bots, they’re never going to win on that front.

Ultimately, the concept of empathy needs to return.

Not sure society has ever been at such a point where people don’t give a shit about others so much.

Until then, we’ll be in the race to the bottom.

Nihilists will have fun though. They can stoke the fire and not care about the outcome.

Absolutely. I’d add It’s not just about having it, it’s similar to transparency in that it has to be turned into a given. It’s then what you do with it that’s important.

The lack of empathy is all across the political divide and doesn’t enable any decent discussion to be had.

The country is completely gone.
No pride.
No Law and order.
As i have said before the only people we are obliged to look after are the Elderly,Children and the disabled everyone else can get a job.We have to make employment and bettering yourself to attain things an ambition.
Stopping the illegal immigration when you arrive detention centre with no luxuries ie mobiles and cash.
Tax low taxation boosts the economy thats a fiscal fact.
Maybe add tax on to certain products then you decide if you really need them.
The Nhs should be free to those that are low paid and in the looked after category.
A Ni reduction for working people to be able go part private or fully private.I could go on but the main parties are only interested in blame not attempting to repair this country.

So we are going to use military bases to house migrants in 2025, a policy that was first aired in 2023 and the opposition then, now the government derided it and opposed.

It’s a funny old game is politics.

Its a regression to a lite version of Victorian times.

Couldn’t agree more, it won’t happen though sadly.

£18bn of new export contracts signed in the last 2 weeks. Good news for those employed in the respective industries. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to moan and say it should have been £20bn. ;-)

We certainly need a radical change of direction - work has to be rewarded, aspiration and effort encouraged - but the sheer number of people profiting from the status quo in and around the political system present huge inertia.

Too many non-producers being rewarded for failure, too many people being paid to do nothing. Meanwhile wealth creators and people who have aspired to improve their lot are the repeated target of ever higher taxes.

It will take a full blown fiscal crisis for it to change but it will happen eventually.
