The Labour Government

I thought it says everything. A friend of mine was saying his pension value has gone up £300k in the last year. He did absolutely nothing to gain that (apart from having a good IFA). At least he does drawdown and pays quite a bit of tax and injects his cash into the economy, unlike lots of others who don't draw down despite havng benefitted from the tax relief.
Saving it for when they're in a care home and saving the taxpayer by spending all their savings and pension on their own care.

I never really considered in my I'm alright Jack days when I thought those on the dole taking £50 for doing nothing(showing my age) were bad but the the mega wealthy who were earning thousands, tens of thousands each day for also doing fuck all never got much of a mention.
We have a somewhat illogical view of deserved in this country and others in fairness.

So 11 million people with better rights than yesterday. Will they vote Labour?

No-one really affected by the prisoner gone awol - maybe worry for the women he assaulted - but it's headline news. This? It's all over the Mail, Express and Telegraph. Not.

I agree and am much the same. I'm sure BKB will be along soon to defend the top decile.

You gotta be dead inside not to feel for that top 1%, all that effort, 50 hour days, 10 days a week and nothing to show for it.

Personally I salute their sacrifice.
To be fair some of that top 1% will be doctors and consultants. A senior consultant would have a final salary income of around 100k per year, that equates to an equivalent defined contribution pension pot of at least £2m.

You can see in the subsequent replies that people are up for “Viva la revolution”, but rather than comrades and we’re all in it together, it’s wanting the regression to the workers knowing their place and to be controlled again.

How do you rebuild a society that cares for each other when unfettered and increasingly deregulated capitalism has destroyed people looking out for each other?

The profit margins have been squeezed as much as they can go, so now it’s got to be treating the workers worse that is the next way to make sure the shareholders get their dividends.

Rather than workhouses, we need cooperatives again where people work for each other and achieve a common goal. I can’t see that happening any time soon.
The subsequent replies are mainly by wankers though so I wouldn’t pay it much heed.

It’s a good bill if you are a renter. I’m guessing landlords will be selling first opportunity.

How have the Labour Party impacted your life’s for the better in the 14 months they have been in charge, I will go first and say in no way has my life improved its drastically got a lot worse.

Fuck all has changed really for me. (once the WFA was reinstated)

However quality street tins have halved in my lifetime ...no matter who's been in charge. The cunts.

So you actually want to live in a country that suffers a breakdown of its' finances? Hm, I wonder who the biggest sufferers will be. Not the top 10% or 20% I bet.
The party of the people are about to raise income tax.Hammer pensions left to spouses,Inheritance tax threshold will be hit to.
All to pay for the excessive pay rises for the members. You are about to get fucked by Starmer who lied that he would do none of the above. The only thing certain with the labour party is that they are not the party for hard work or aspiration how very dare you want to better yourself.

The "party of the people" are trying to make sure the people don't endure another bout of austerity.

I don't know where you get your news but there's been absolutely no mention in the "normal" press about any changes on pensions left to spouses.

Which "members" are you referring to?

Are you a pensioner, low paid worker, renter, have kids that need child care, got a mortgage. If the answer to any of those is "yes", then your life is probably better.

The biggest problem is the perception that somebody on £100k is wealthy when it just isn't true. Of course somebody on £100k is wealthy compared to somebody on £30k but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't take much to put you in the bracket of a high earner. Somebody on £60k will be in the top 20%, it's because the richest aren't earning a salary.

Income tax isn't the problem, the problem is generational wealth, assets and property but historic governments have never touched this because they themselves are part and parcel of that system. It's a completely different world of wealth that goes beyond people who have just worked themselves into a good career or whatever.

Most MP's are Oxbridge types who are highly unlikely to need to pay their bills from their MP salary. The reason why is they already probably own assets or they've inherited money or they stand to inherit a ton of money because of who their parents were or what they did.

So why would they argue to tax themselves? They haven't which is why we've seen the chancellor hit pensioners last year but they didn't dare touch the millionaires and billionaires who own the £20tn value that is sat locked away in assets.
