The Labour Government

They could scrap the mobility element of PiP and replace it with an appropriate vehicle instead. i.e. If your disability means that you simply need a car to get you from A to B (or be driven from A to B), then a base level car could be provided, or if your needs require a larger and more adapted vehicle, then that could be provided.

Possibly, doing it this way the Gov through economies of scale could negotiate a much better deal for leasing vehicles.

There are some people that would prefer to just have the payment instead and get a taxi as and when though. Who probably don't need a car all the time.

It’s not fucking rocket science.

The manufacturers could even give DVLA access to current mileage info.

How long do you think it will take to build the technology to do that baseline mileage and annual update on a fixed date?

I suppose the government thinks a couple of years.

If these people want a middle class white bloke running the show, with their wives smiling meekly in the background, then they’d be voting Labour, as that’s the only type of leader they’ve ever had. Starmer fits the bill perfectly.

You appear to think that these new reform voters, especially the racist reform voters, would only ever have voted Conservative previously. Because we all know that anyone voting Labour couldn’t possibly be a racist, and that the left has never, ever had a problem with racism, don’t we?

Again, it’s a solid argument and I can see the thought you’ve put into it.
Thanks

That took you literally seconds of thought, our politicians? Oh err.(shit you don't have MOTs on new cars fuck fuck fuck how do I get out of this)

I mean seriously is policy on the back of a fag packet. Are these things not discussed. Its fucking painful.

Im not even getting into the double whammy of hybrids.

They were still writing the budget last weekend so quite possibly…

My dad once said years ago to me ,no matter what political party it is they all piss in the same pot and in politics for one thing themselves, the older I get the more I agree with him

And the fact a pretty big policy in the budget has not been discussed in any great detail is a worry. Every decision by a govt should be checked and double checked.

From the outside it looks like

We need money can't raise income tax etc..... any ideas?
We could slap price per mile on EVs and hybrids we are losing revenue on road tax.
How much will that raise?
Few billion
Okay

Do they not sit down work out the pros and cons? discuss if its in line with their principles/promises, discuss how it will actually work and if there are ways to avoid paying it.

I mean this is basic stuff.

I was once asked to 'quality assure' an eight figure bid (nine with long term maintenance) for a government contract that had been substantively re-written by two people in a bar 48 hours before the submission deadline, this was the point I realised the world was in fact completely mad.

According to Labour... to ensure that the bill is passed. Day 1 rights to sue for unfair dismissal was always going to be tough (and to be honest is unfair on employers) I ,personally, would prefer to see rights affirmed when the individual gets through a probationary period (with obvious limits placed on employers re length of such periods )

There's also a narrative building in the right wing press about Labour reneging on manifesto promises. (how many times did the Tories do that with NO press commentary )
Good move by government.

It’s normal for defence contractors to be modifying bid proposals hrs before submission, even £bn plus contracts.

remember who these people are (whitehall blob excepted, they have different issues, mainly protecting their pensions) - politicians generally have no clue about the mechanics of their departments

I don't doubt it. In this instance the rewrite won the business, a delivery clusterfuck commenced and resulted in more than a few difficult questions being raised in parliament over the years (not UK).

You've just reminded me that as a 'youngster' in the days of physical submissions I was bundled out of a car to run at full pelt to BCC in Victoria Square to get a bid in with about 90 seconds to spare before the 12:00 deadline. As I'm on my haunches recovering, two other suppliers appeared to put their bids in even later. Doubtless all three of us claiming we could run the operations more efficiently :-)

The most recent budget process has plumbed new depths of chaos. Perhaps if someone had a few bevvies it might have been less so ;)

Your Dad appears to be a visionary. It appears that you cannot take the "fight or flight" instinct out of human beings and ultimately they all go for self preservation over the greater good.

France has agreed to start intercepting small boats in the Channel, following months of pressure from the UK.

The change in policy comes after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer wrote to President Emmanuel Macron urging him to back the plan and saying we currently "have no effective deterrent" in the Channel, according to a report in Le Monde, external.

French security forces will be allowed to stop the small boats at sea, but only before they've picked up their passengers, the maritime police force has confirmed to the BBC.

French police have rarely intervened to stop the overcrowded boats leaving the coastline because it is considered too great a risk to both officers and civilians.
Le Monde reported Sir Keir's letter as reading: "It is essential that we deploy these tactics this month... We have no effective deterrent in the Channel."

Now, a French maritime police spokesperson says officers will start intervening at sea, with the aim of safeguarding human life.

Once got told by a marketing director that my last briefing paper was of a much higher standard than what I normally delivered to them for polishing. The implication being I should continue to do whatever I'd done differently this time; didn't have the heart to tell her that would be consume eight or nine bottles of Stella before putting pen to paper.
