@bluethrunthru who is doing very well feels your pain. I'm afraid we are all in this together, austerity isn't a choice it's a necessity I'm afraid, it's all about the economy stupid.

Will they say the ultimate Tory lines before too long

Trickle down
Work harder

:-)

The issue isn’t whether or not the incoming government knew the extent of the financial ruin prior to taking office, the issue is that the outgoing government knowingly left the country in financial ruin. Let’s not get distracted here.
The issue is that a Labour government is implementing a policy that would make Margaret Thatcher proud. Incredibly, some of the posters who would be all over this if it was a Tory policy are happy clapping Reeves! I am certainly not far left but credit to those posters who are actually remaining true to their values and morals rather than just trying to hold a party line for political gain.

I’m over 80 live alone, pay for everything myself, including essential alterations I needed to be able to stay living alone and looking after myself.
I have a ‘private’ pension which takes me just above the limit apparently for any pension credit. Also I have limited savings which I had earmarked for repairs to my home.
Most pensioners have to have the heating on all day in winter and I rely on the WFA to be able to pay my fuel bill.
I am not pleading poverty I am just asking not to have to go cap in hand after all the years I’ve managed to bring up 4 children alone. I’ve never asked for state or any other help and I sure as hell am not going to start in my mid 80s thank you.
The other lot took the TV licence payment. This government take the fuel allowance. C’est la vie!

My offspring would help me but I didn’t raise them to look after me I raised them to be independent and raise their own. Plus I’ll manage without anyone’s help thank you. Except my own pigheadedness!! *lol*
What’s the alternative? I get up every morning so I’ll manage but this is the last year for my season card! :-)

EDIT: p.s. When I do go on holiday it is usually to visit my Canadian family and they pay half of my fare and would pay it all but no way Jose!!
according to Mr Kobayashi you should either sell up and move to a smaller/cheaper house or take in a lodger.
I know you're too polite so i'll say it for you, piss off you arsehole!!

nobs being nobs...........wums in general anyway

No Govt will ever be perfect nor please everyone all the time. It will be a nice change to have a Govt that doesn't actively pursue a trajectory to make them and theirs richer and us poorer

By caving in to their Union mates you mean? That makes them and theirs richer and pensioners poorer.

My thoughts exactly, when I could earn a decent amount of overtime, we ate out more, had an extra holiday bought stuff for the house etc etc, what do the rich do buy a Lamborghini, or send money into a tax haven, I guess if you gave millions what I had they taxes collected would be through the roof, the rich wouldn’t spend any extra that would really benefit us.
If they say means test the state pension how about means test the personal allowance, if you get over £100k you don’t get one, that’s a few billion straight away. Don’t know if my sums are right they say there’s 4% of the population earn £100k so that’s 2.2 million so it’s around £5billion a year.

Thats already the case if you earn over £100k you start to lose your tax free allowance. Once you earn £120k you don’t get any. That £5bn has already been spent fella.

*lol* I did that many years ago and live in a 2 up 2 down in a terrace of 4 in a quiet street. It’s so small that the washing machine wouldn’t fit in the kitchen but luckily the bathroom is bigger so it sits there in all its splendour (perfectly legally for electricians wondering).
So you’re right I would like to be able to tell anyone off who tells me to downsize or take a lodger. However, each to their own.
I thoroughly enjoy living alone. I eat my meals when I feel hungry, if I can’t sleep I can come down and watch TV or read in bed. (Hate TVs in bedrooms sorry folks) Basically I can start to be selfish and look after me. Ooooohhh that sounds horrible but that’s how I feel these days. :-)

Having said that I do try to help people and would if they really needed me.
