The Labour Government

The issue isn’t whether or not the incoming government knew the extent of the financial ruin prior to taking office, the issue is that the outgoing government knowingly left the country in financial ruin. Let’s not get distracted here.
There is a huge distinction. It’s like the difference in levels of deception between telling your wife she looks good in a dress that doesn’t really suit her and fucking her sister behind her back.

*lol* I did that many years ago and live in a 2 up 2 down in a terrace of 4 in a quiet street. It’s so small that the washing machine wouldn’t fit in the kitchen but luckily the bathroom is bigger so it sits there in all its splendour (perfectly legally for electricians wondering).
So you’re right I would like to be able to tell anyone off who tells me to downsize or take a lodger. However, each to their own.
I thoroughly enjoy living alone. I eat my meals when I feel hungry, if I can’t sleep I can come down and watch TV or read in bed. (Hate TVs in bedrooms sorry folks) Basically I can start to be selfish and look after me. Ooooohhh that sounds horrible but that’s how I feel these days. :-)

Having said that I do try to help people and would I& they really needed me.
I wouldn't give up your hobby ......It keeps us going.

living the dream Eccles, living the dream ;-)

I’m over 80 live alone, pay for everything myself, including essential alterations I needed to be able to stay living alone and looking after myself.
I have a ‘private’ pension which takes me just above the limit apparently for any pension credit. Also I have limited savings which I had earmarked for repairs to my home.
Most pensioners have to have the heating on all day in winter and I rely on the WFA to be able to pay my fuel bill.
I am not pleading poverty I am just asking not to have to go cap in hand after all the years I’ve managed to bring up 4 children alone. I’ve never asked for state or any other help and I sure as hell am not going to start in my mid 80s thank you.
The other lot took the TV licence payment. This government take the fuel allowance. C’est la vie!

My offspring would help me but I didn’t raise them to look after me I raised them to be independent and raise their own. Plus I’ll manage without anyone’s help thank you. Except my own pigheadedness!! *lol*
What’s the alternative? I get up every morning so I’ll manage but this is the last year for my season card! :-)

EDIT: p.s. When I do go on holiday it is usually to visit my Canadian family and they pay half of my fare and would pay it all but no way Jose!!
They will increase the tax on occupational pensions in the next budget. They have to pay for big pay rises for public sector workers. Some deserve it and some don’t but all will get a big rise. Some GPs currently retire or go part time after the age of 50, because their pensions have reached the limit of tax free contributions, but will get 20% plus over the next two years.

So are you in favour of taking the payment off pensioners and killing 4000 of them or not Vic?, come on you can be honest here. I promise not to remove the whip on you:-)

Oh almost missed that, a top indicator when someone picks a side and spends their life defending them.

Your side - they have received x amount extra

Other side - it's not an increase its keeping up with the cost of living. Otherwise it's a pay cut.

So transparent
If Keir Starmer said the moon was made out of cheese, he’d be on here arguing about different types of cheeses and which varieties were particularly suited to the lunar environment.

Maybe wrong but wasn't that tax limit for Drs pensions scrapped recently?

The hole is in round figures £20bn. Of this £11bn is the difference between the new gov’s calculation of public sector pay rises and the old gov who allowed 2% in their figures.

I dont remember exactly but there was a proposal to increase the limit. No idea whether it has been actioned.
Even so, the GP contract is far too generous. Weekend locums are often German doctors in full time there, but can make a pretty penny on a Sunday here.
The contract gives GPs freedom to chose the services they offer, hence you can’t see one on a weekend, in the evening, or on a bank holiday. They just didn’t tick those boxes. It’s a four day week plus a day for study.
Average GP earnings are now £90k plus, I believe.

Let's hope Reeves starts to lower interest rates by a point or two to get the construction and house building sector moving again. She is going to need to to build all those houses in Starmers plan.
