The Labour Government

All im saying is you need to possibly relax a little, its an internet chat forum. You and I have had many a good debate over the years have we not.

Pls point out my hypocrisy?

I voted for Labour last month, so I want them to do well. I have few doubts that they will be an improvement on our last Government, but that doesn't mean they won't make mistakes and won't please everyone.
By hypocrisy, I mean you saying with one breath they should be measured in 5 years and in the next , criticising what they are doing now not knowing what the picture will be in 5 years

Yes, we have had some good debates and I’m sure more to come

They would have kept it, they increased it and kept the tripple lock that these lying bastards will scap next year when inflation takes off again, oh if you have a Company or private pension get your 25%tax free lump sum out now if you are over 55 before these fuckers tax it
I agree the Tories possibly would have kept it, but they were proving to be untrustworthy with the finances, so goodness knows what would have lay ahead. Thankfully, and rightly, they have been booted out.

Oh I see, well I feel its right to question things if needs be, as and when they are announced. But I will pass my judgement in five years time. There's a long way to go as yet.

It does appear that we are going to end up like the USA where we have one right wing party and a centre right party in opposition. If Labour are going to go after growth then they are going to have to provide the environment for businesses to thrive. I'm pretty certain that ultimately that is not in the interest of the working class and disadvantaged. Reeves is adamant that all spending must be costed and accounted for but much of life cannot be based on a spreadsheet. It looks to me that we are back to that trickle down approach of Cameron and Osborne where if we control costs and increase the wealth of the country then eventually the poorest will benefit. Maybe there is no other way?

Speaking further to my aunt this morning (who is over the limit for everything), she has now told me that her 77 year old husband has taken on a part time job in the last few weeks. Their savings have been badly eroded over the last few years, what with fuel bills and other rising prices.
77!!! Worked from when he was a 14 year old paperboy (where he once met Ian Brady who used to call into the newsagents for his daily paper, but that's another story) then in engineering and then ended up as a hospitality manager until he retired at 65.
She did admit that they have "middle class tastes but working class pockets" but it just goes to show how hard these recent years have been on some who should be happily retired.
And it's going to get worse, you are better off not working and not having any savings or a Private or Company pension scheme or owning a house, you would get your Rent and council tax paid along with free care in old age, it's a joke

I know it’s not what a lot of lefties want to hear, but Reeves is correct.

We can’t just throw cash that doesn’t really exist at a problem, especially as we’ve only just got the post-covid inflation bonfire under control.

Where (New, New) Labour and this current incarnation of the Tories differ is I trust Reeves and Starmer to spend what money we do have diligently and to have a real long term plan.

Serious people doing serious jobs.

The far left and far right populists would like you to believe they can fix all our problems overnight. They can’t, it’s all a load of codswallop.

This is the tragedy of treating government finances like a kitchen check book. “Fixing the books” sounds all well and good when you’re not the one being asked to go without….

And you really believe what Reeves and Starmer are claiming? that they didn't see the books before the Election

Winter fuel payments should have always been means tested , the level at which it’s set is the main issue. Without divulging any personal information my mum received it but has a fortune invested in various bank accounts, from my point of view that’s totally unacceptable and immoral.

Agreed.
