The Labour Government

I guess it’s not peanuts to the recipients that only just fall outside the arbitrary line where is not longer receivable.

The worst of it is that those who have paid their full stamp and don’t have any other previsions fall outside and those who haven’t contributed do. So you can theoretically end up in a situation where those who haven’t potentially worked a day in their life being better off than someone who hasn’t had a day on the dole - and that is inherently unjust.
I was asking @PPT the question after he labelled the upcoming £400 increase in state pension as 'peanuts'.
I have been piss poor a few times in life so i know four hundred quid can be a lot of money.
You've summed the whole thing up in your next paragraph.
Despite ppt's stats, the whole benefit system generally remains fair. We all know the guy/girl/family who is taking the piss and playing the system, and if you don't they're not hard to spot. But in the great scheme they are a miniscule proprtion of the benefit receiving majority. Using these wankers to 'model' the system or moan that's it's not fair is ridiculous.
This 'hostile enviroment' attitude (cheers Pritti) is not the way to run the system, nor is it a good look for those that dont receive any benefits to piss and whinge about. Yes its fucking annoying when i see someone sat in the pub all day every day that hasn't done proper work for decades bragging about their next holiday, but out of all the people i share my locals with there's 3 of them i can name.

I thought that 20m sounded unusually high. Turns out more than half were people who had taken early retirement. Another quarter were either students, or people looking after their kids. There are also a chunk of people who are not working, but aren't looking (who are well off, or taking a break), and there will always be a significant number between jobs at any particular point in time.

There has been an increase after Covid, but that number was pretty high before too.
They are trying to get many who took early retirement back into work, they reckon many of the reasons they won’t and I’m one of them is the crap you have to deal with at work, the daft courses on diversity etc, the constant online crap you have to keep up with, watching what you say etc. Also many employers don’t want older employees as they are less likely to be yes men and say what they think. For me also it’s the tax situation as I already pay tax on my pension, if I went back to work once you tax it both in income and NI I could be working for half minimum wage! One solution would be to get rid of abatement, I know unions may not like that but say for example you had a doctor, you allow them once they qualified to take their lump sum and pension and continue in their job maybe even part time everyone wins, the doctor gets what they are entitled to plus extra cash and the hospital doesn’t lose the expertise. There is an argument they want people to retire to give the youth a chance, so which is it?

The old age pension was introduced when 5% of the population was over 65. That's now 20% and still rising.

The birthrate is going down.

What happens when there are more pensioners than people working to pay for pensions - and for the health care costs for millions of people in their 90s?

(Discuss without reference to the current outrage over winter fuel payments.)

Does a Labour government bring in a final solution policy for them all and the left on here fall over themselves supporting it?

Lots of recent news articles of euthanasia being touted, it wont be long until living past 65 will be considered selfish.

This film is quite prophetic, only the time and date has been moved forward.

That's a £500 increase but I've read it's going up by 5.71% which would be circa £650.
£12.50 per week. I’m booking my private jet as we speak. Off on my holidays.

Oh wait, I’ve got a fuel bill to pay and that’s gone up.
Travelling to the hospital and paying parking at least once per week some weeks more. Yes I could travel by bus but bus stops too far away for my walk.
I could go on but I forgot I’m an expendable pensioner. Sorry to butt in.
