The Labour Government

Why are there so many poor pensioners after 14 years of Tory rule?
It goes back decades, not just the last 14 years. In the days of cash, you'd see lines of pensioners queing up in the morning outside post offices waiting for them to open because they didn't have a penny in their pockets and it was pension day.

I remember my grandmother telling me in the late 60's the pension was barely enough to live on.

We've always been mean as a country to our elders, and that position hasn't changed over the last 60 years or so. Labour and tory governments have both been happy to let that status quo continue.

Any thoughts as to what would happen if we need to build tanks / battleships etc? Being reliant on other countries for steel is not a good place to be in.

Yet another Tory sell off gone wrong.

Nobody wanted the product at the price we could gate it for in a deeply oversupplied market where you can’t hope to compete against China. The government could have saved it but choose not to, I guess because a) they knew it would need saving again once they’d burnt through the cash and b) they could always blame it on the tories.

Regarding reliance on other countries so we can make our own steel to build battleships and tanks. It’s not made with pixie dust, it’s made with iron ore (and a few bits of alloy) in steel mills - last time I checked we don’t have any iron ore mines that produce sufficient quantities. So where are we getting that from…oh yeah other countries. Then there is the steel making coal required for the furnaces- *checks UK met coal production*… ah blast that’s zero, again we get it from other countries.

It is a sad however.

Someone is playing fast and loose with the word achievements.

The amount of marathons I've planned to run but still get out of breath walking up a hill.
Planning to run a marathon gets you fit my arse:-)

I've also binned my sieve hat for when it rains, I'm still getting soaked though.

I'm also planning on turning base things into gold so I can retire early:-)

Embarrassing isn’t it? It’s a bit like the media telling us how good United are when it’s blatantly obvious they are dog shite.

I think what's more embarrassing is the Tory boys not being able to get the heads round the fact Labour have done more good in 2 months than the previous shower of shit did in years.

Sure, the WFA is a fuck up, but surely you must acknowledge that some good has been done

There is a difference between will do and have done, also between plan to and did.

Politicians tend to promise lots and deliver nowhere near. NHS to be proud of, education best in the world, the gap between rich and poor....... endless promises by endless politicians.

Unless someone has just arrived from another planet this is not new. You can't on one hand have a go at those who you say are having a pop too early then defend those getting giddy with their Labour pom poms.

It's early and so far it's a mixed bag. This is what has actually happened.

They have done some good things. Bit weird they need a list though. I remember just before the election they released a list of all the things Blair and Brown had done. Maybe they just like lists. I imagine Starmer laundry day list is long with all his freebies ;)

I randomly picked one of the “achievements” off the list, “Announced free breakfast clubs to be rolled out from April 2025”. Is that really an achievement? What is happening from April 2025 is £7m has been set aside to trial them in 750 primary schools. It’s an achievement when they deliver their manifesto pledge to have them in all primary schools, until then it’s an ambition - bit like the scums ambition to win the league. It is good policy and it is good to see it getting started.

The list just feels like folk are desperate for validation. A bit needy. Like I say, weird.
