The Labour Government

So she only increased it by 150%. Well done Maggie.
Best PM in the past 50 years. I imagine your myriad misconceptions and broken ideogies lead you to a different conclusion.

Why oh why can't we just be like every other failed socialist economy over the past 100 years. It's such a crying shame isn't it.

He said you're naive. We have to get wealth off the super wealthy or have lots more poverty.
I doubt he said anything to me at all. And he's a **** who I wouldn't piss on if he was on fire. So really not bothered what he has to say.

What about the 80% of their pay that was paid to millions of people in furlough payments? Of course those people had that didn't they.

...

If you had watched it...

It didn't make them richer because they got less than their employer would have paid them.

Someone else got money that they wouldn't otherwise have got, from money borrowed by the government.. He says it's the rich.

Enough to make your blood boil.

Enough to make YOUR blood boil. Not mine. But then again, I don't have a chip on my shoulder nor ideologically want rich people be less rich.

It’s a shame her successors who pitched themselves as the heir to Thatcher went against one of her most successful initiatives - the European Single Market.

Absolutely loads of people I know who run small businesses hammered the covid loans. 2 of them (both rags!) built extensions on their houses with it!
The scale of fraud on the covid loans appears enormous. Remember the acute shortage of HGV drivers we suddenly had ? I recall meeting a guy at the time who was a senior figure in the haulage industry who told me that the main reason was as reported that so many had gone home to Eastern Europe . However he said that what wasn't reported was the reason they weren't coming back - lots of them were self employed and pocketed Covid loans that they didn't want to pay back. All done in too much haste.

At least Thatcher believed the trickle down nonsense. You seem not to care that it doesn't actually trickle down because the glass of the rich just gets bigger.

Not everyone benefitted from the furlough scheme as evidenced by this thread. Many self-employed people were excluded from most avenues of help. As someone else said, it was handy for those who got 80% of their wage after being sent home but there were still bills, mortgages, and rent to pay for many of those people. Sure, not being able to go out or go on holiday, etc, helped with the 20% shortfall but none of those who were paid furlough money came out the other end a lot richer than before Covid but a fair few went back to a job where their employer's business had taken a hit in revenues, or worse still, had gone bust. Certainly, the place I work at has never recovered to pre-pandemic levels.

If this makes you blood boil, maybe another walk is called for?

Offset your frustration by the signing of the Indian trade deal which is good for the economy, but on which none of the usual snipers on here have commented and also the view of the CEO of Lloyds who thinks the outlook for the economy is much more positive than is being reported.

Nunn said personal and business finance were looking more +ve while slowing GDP growth and rising unemployment were of increasing concern. LLoyds have aligned with the OBR on 1% growth for 2025 - up from 0.8%, pour the champagne.

A bit harsh. I haven't listened to all of this interview but he seems to have come from a poor background, done well for himself and is trying to highlight some of the inequalities in society.
He answers the question that I’ve asked multiple times on here,’Where has all the money gone?’. Until we get this right, we will continue to slide.

That's a good thing I would have thought but apparently not everyone on here is happy about that.

Did you know you're a "gullible leftie" for reading the book?

Did it? Can you post your evidence for this pls Vic? It certainly had an effect but it wasn't halved was it?

Thanks
Already done it several times. And don't claim other factors. Production at highest level ever until the vote with predictions of even better. Till the vote. And would have been worse but for public subsidy to keep Nissan in Sunderland.

You must really hate Charlie Mullins then.

Are the rest of your claims facts, heresay or just your opinion? It sounds like you may have actually read his book(I haven't).
The FT did a decent shake down of most of Stevenson’s claims in an article last September, speaking to many of his former colleagues - unsurprisingly it turns out the bloke is a serial liar.

Quite why anyone would believe the bloke, or get worked up by his ignorant claims about the rich, is a bit of a mystery. Although I do give Stevenson a bit of credit for writing such a bad book and taking money off gullible lefties.

Well it had an effect obviously, which is a great shame, but it didn't halve because of brexit. No doubt the last Government messed up big time with their negotiations over Brexit.

However as the saying goes, two wrongs dont make a right, and this Government appear to be ruining what's left of our vehicle industry, which was my initial point. One which you didn't comment on?

Have a read of this article. Its pretty damming.
