The Labour Government

Angela's real crime was to be a down-to-earth northerner who left school as a single mum, lived in a council house on an estate, worked in a low pay job for the council and had the outright cheek to rise to the highest ranks of government, talking to Oxbridge types with a northern bluntness and commoner's accent.

Giving hope to all who didn't have the silver spoon.
That really wasn’t her crime and I think you know it.

Shabana Mahmood was my MP for quite a few years, with preposterous majorities each time I was there btw. She got 83% of the vote in 2017! Always voted Libdem/Green while I was there though.

Went to her with an issue during Covid, only time I’ve ever had cause to contact my MP on a personal matter, and she sorted it promptly.

Think she’s an impressive woman and I’m pleased for her that she’s landed that job.

She’s well regarded across the board. Well, apart from racists on social media…

What never ceases to amaze me is how many politicians manage to scupper their own careers by making stupid and/or corrupt choices that they are unlikely to get away with.
The fact that it keeps happening doesn't say much for the system that enables unsuitable candidates to keep getting elected in the first place, whatever their political allegiance.

Was that that time you got clocked importuning in the bogs in Platt Fields mate?

No, it wasn't.
Then can you quote me the bit of the guidance that you think she got wrong?

I thought it was the bit that said you don't pay higher rate if you don't own another property but you'll be treated as owning another property that:

"is owned on behalf of children under the age of 18 (parents are treated as the owners even if the property is held through a trust and they are not the trustees)".

Seriously? One fucking school has provided seven post war prime ministers and you want to have a pop about one working class woman not getting there on merit?

Talk about fucking brainwashed…
I’m not sure they were actually talking backhanders, in the sense of brown envelopes.

We do have some great MPs, just that the odd few who abuse their position get the most coverage.

Of course, I can't stand the loathsome harpy.
Chances are you've never met her. Personally I have; I knew her through the TU movement long before she was an MP.

I never cease to be amazed that other (mainly) working class people literally despise other working class people who do well in life. It's as if they're crying out for Jacob Rees-Mogg types to tell them what's best for them!

So, just put of interest, have you reserved your rabid ire for a) all politicians b) all female politicians c) just this female politician or d) have you got anger issues that prevent you from expressing yourself?

Ffs Vic, why are you still going about this.
The verdict is already in, the ethics advisor has spoken, Ange has admitted she should have paid, she chose not to get advice, she has resigned. Additionally it has come to light that she charged her sons trust £164k for 25% of a house he already owned 50% of and his dad owned the other 25% " for his security" ? Furthermore it is alleged that the house valuation for that purpose was over valued by up to £100k allowing her to charge her son's trust up to £25k more than her share was worth. To buy a £800k flat in Hove , 260 miles away from her son and her constituents.
I understand that yourself and others may have had up to this point a romanticised view of Ange as some kind of working class totem, pure in thought and deed, a tonic to the capture of the Labour Party by London progressives.
It is hard when someone violates that trust, I get you may feel betrayed. But this obdurate denial is ridiculous.
She isn't what you thought she was. She may have been once, but not any more. She is done .

Because you and other haters are still here coming up with new allegations that I'm disinclined to let go by unremarked.

This is the problem. It’s absolutely right that she’s lost her job as she at best was an idiot and at worst lied about it too, but some in the press jumped at the opportunity and now there’s people spouting absolute bollocks like this.

It’s not additionally it came to light, it was all in her statement and there’s nothing wrong with any of that side of it. It’s telling that the narrative from some changed from it was undervalued so it wouldn’t reach the inheritance tax threshold (which was probably irrelevant anyway) to now being overvalued (two years before she sold the remainder of her interest) in order to get her a bigger deposit, seemingly with the other two trustees, one being a law firm and the other her ex husband, not giving a shit about it or her about her own son who she’d already gifted most of her stake to anyway.

Party political stances are making people utterly moronic and completely devoid of rational thought. I really don’t get how we’ve ended up here.
