The Labour Government

what would the Farage brexit have looked like ?
I'd have settled for the one he shouted about before the referendum - we could be like Norway.

After the referendum that was no good. "As late as 2016, most leading Brexit campaigners accepted that there were infinite varieties of Brexit and they included a Norway-like relationship. And yet these varieties were branded almost immediately after the referendum 'Brexit in name only'."

Great that we live in a society where we still have checks and balances, and the government still has to follow the rules and guidelines before they take an action against a person.

A lesson for the government here, maybe it might even convince them that making policy to pander to people that just want someone kicked out regardless of the circumstances isn't the thing that's going to get them re-elected.

Is this a wind up?

I have a horrible feeling I've been Clarkied but it's very convincing post, so I am inclined to believe you're serious???

I want them kicked out because they entered illegally, what is wrong with that?

Because the country is signatory to a convention that says that people entering the country illegally can claim asylum and go through a process to determine whether or not that claim is merited.

I have no idea whether this person will get asylum, but I think we have an obligation to let him prove his case (or not) before we put him on a plane. It appears in this case the government didn't give him that opportunity (pretty much so they could get a PR win to show how tough they are on immigration), so I'm pleased we have those checks and balances in place.

I’ll say this again, for those that didn’t quite get it the first time around. The Tories passed a law to make it illegal but never, ever, ever enacted it because they knew it would’ve been thrown out at the first test.

The Tories knew this, Labour know this, it’s becoming more a pantomime piece the more that it gets told.

So how are we going to stop it?

it was definitely a test case. Trying to argue that they could’ve claimed asylum in France, rather than the recognised country of choice, was never going to win.

Oh no it’s not ;-)

Nobody can stop it, you can only manage it. It’s a tiny amount of people that need to be processed in-line with recognised international policy.

I get that you want to stop them, but they aren’t the problem. We have given international aid for decades, and even though we’ve made huge cuts in recent times, the cost for people seeking asylum is still borne by this fund.

The problem we have is that the people who have failed the country, syphoning off the money into rich pockets, have set a narrative that it’s the tiny percentage of people who cross on boats is why they’ve fucked the country.

Personally, I want a country that has compassion for people who need to seek refuge, like some of the people who supported myself and colleagues in Iraq and Afghanistan, who we completely let down when we closed all legal routes. And those that have made it here and not been accepted as asylum seekers, treat them with respect, get their claim processed and get them returned as soon as possible.

What we are seeing now is the first phase, from different factions, of alienating asylum seekers, soon to be followed by legal migrants who come here on visas. It won’t be long after before the likes of Robinson’s comments are taken literally and we move to deport all people of colour, because that’s what these people want.

Fortunately, I don’t think the majority of the UK are of the same mindset and our sense of fair play and compassion will not accept this notion.

The question from me is, who do you want to stop? People seeking asylum, or/and those who come here by legal routes to support our workforce needs.

The trouble for me is I think the vast majority are not really genuine asylum seekers.

The fucking state of politicians these days.

When I think to the likes of Neil Hamilton, John Stonehouse, Cyril Smith and that bloke who suffocated whilst wanking himself off with an orange stuffed in his mouth, it makes me want to weep.
Could have sworn the MP who died from wanking was wearing a rags shirt at the time. So the family requested the public statement read he died wearing suspenders and an an orange in his mouth to save further embarrassment?
