Think the system needs knocking down and rebuilding, and if that means a small loss of liberty for people trying to get in, in order to make it far more efficient, then that has to be a fair price for potentially substantially more social cohesion imo.Whilst I agree with the theory, I think in practice it would just whip an already angry country into a frenzy. A common argument and, whilst certainly true in some areas, it suggests, as is often the case, that the private sector is so much better. They should bite the bullet and whack 5% on income tax across the board and restore the previous NI threshold.

Recent times, the main time for the Budget was in the Autumn, October/November time, followed by a spring statement. I think it got a bit murky under Johnson who seemed to use the spring statement as a second budget, which Reeves reversed and returned to a single budget in Autumn.Since when was the budget held in November? Or facts!Im not going round in circles while you give me examples of well to do pensioners. The state pension only is not a lot of money to live on. That is my view so anyone going on about the triple lock can do one until the state pension is more in line with other decent paying countries.
That is where I stand and where I will stay, if anyone wants to come up with ideas of how to take a bit more off the wealthy then fair enough.
@Blue Maverick rightly states defining what a well to do pensioner is ain't easy. For some reason a few posters seem to have a downer on the temerity of old folk to not be living off bread and water and daring not to pop their clogs for our benefit. :-)

The political system needs to be radically changed and modernised. No House of Lords for starters. At least 50 per cent of the world manages without a second chamber. We are stuck in the past. Everything is too slow and we have been hammered by more nimble countries.It’s a fine balance. When you have political parties just trying to point score I just can’t see anything changing on that front.
