It goes through about five stages starting with the Prison governor signing it off, each one has to sign about five stages.
No way it’s deliberate it’s a mistake in the paperwork. I believe they already suspended one of the staff.

It’s the first time something like this has happened, most of the escapes are from open prison low grade offenders

I think you have to counter balance it with ambulances and the benefits of cheese. I mean it was on average 50 times a year which is 50 times too many, this year its leapt 5 fold to 250. Maybe that should be a concern as the pressure or competence in our prisons are obviously getting worse.
However it seems a child abuser on the loose is not considered news worthy.
Maybe we can decide how many times it needs to happen before one should be concerned. Does it need to happen more often than an RTA involving a ambulance or an empty shelf of Cheddar?
Anyhow personally I'm glad its been big news because hopefully that's means a bigger chance of it being sorted.
I mean we all agree dangerous criminals wandering the street isn't good yes? No matter what govt is in charge. I mean we want to know if someone like that is wandering around our area dont we? That's more important than politics yes?
Congrats to @Vic I dont think that deflection will ever be bettered by its sheer audaudacity.

Deliberate for what purpose ?

Not so much in a prison. Much more likely to be something internal rather than external that results in something going wrong.
And if NHS workers start ending up in ambulance crashes much more so than they did 20 years ago, regardless of the external rather than internal factors in this case, then wouldn't you think theres perhaps a problem? Faulty vehicles, inadequately trained staff? If so, who is responsible for that?

Even if there is a systemic flaw in the system isn’t it still probably either prison / civil service government rather than government as in political (Tory / labour) issue or maybe last governments (Tory) fault due to funding. rather than this government as in labours fault
 
I wasn’t quite sure where to post this, but 15.3 billion forecasted to be spent on asylum hotels over the next 10 years.

It’s insane. We currently have a number of cuts/ lack of spending on things like education, hospitals and more. The hospital around the corner from me is literally falling down.

The tories did such a bad job with this hotel idea and the cost of it is now carrying onto the labour government

It is an eye watering amount and money which could be put to better use. That said, we are obligated to look after these people until their applications are decided. It falls over when some have been waiting up to 2 years for a decision.

For me, throw everything at assessments and get rid of those not entitled.

Labour have said that hotels will not be being used for this purpose by the end of their first term.

It just seemed too convenient that immigration had fallen out of the news for a few days in a week when only 3 boats arrived. Jenryck and Pochin pipe up to throw some red meat to the gammonerati and then this happens to get the "patriots" angry again.

Without irregular immigration Reform and the likes of Jenryck and Philp become irrelevant, or have to answer questions about other policies, that we know they don't have.

I heard this on Sky News this morning and it’s scandalous what is happening and how it is being reported. Firstly, the 10 year period for this assessment is from 2019 - 29, with the majority of long term contracts being put in place due to the previous government moving to the Rwanda scheme and not processing any claims, giving certain companies free reign to make money while sub-contracting to others who are making a fortune.

And then there’s the reporting of it by the mainstream media. Heard the detail from one of the Sky News political commentators, but there was no reference to when or why it was implemented or who signed off on such things, just that it was scandalous from the Home Office. It was only when a Labour MP was being questioned that it was brought up that this has been inherited and the reality of what the last government brought in to ensure their donors got paid.

Furthermore, just read the story on Sky News where they interview a Conservative Dame, current MP, who basically puts the blame to the current government who ‘need to get a grip!’.

This is another area where the media are using it as political tool, and it’s not what I want to see. By all means, tell the story but don’t exclude the facts of the issue.

Looks like it’s all about stoking tensions and, in Sky’s case, chase the GB News viewers.

How much of that will be going straight into the pockets of Serco/Mitie directors?

What's the source for that last claim? Stats on prisoners absconding are kept separately.

Still the best of a bad bunch which tells its own story.
They have dropped the ball far too often in 12 months though unfortunately, been a disappointment overall.

Labour deserve criticism but we do live in a age of social media division where whoever is in power has absolutely no chance of succeeding and making everyone happy, its simply impossible.

Most of their criticism comes from their own, mostly avoidable errors of judgement. A complete lack of common sense and inability to read the room. Of course they have their hands tied on several issues that they have inherited but they haven’t helped themselves one bit in other areas.
Hopefully they can steady the ship over the next 12 months because as it stands there’s no other party that’s capable of taking over and doing any better.
