Thoughts on the asylum seeker question. Is it right to take the stance that these people shouldn’t be given a permanent pass, and having to move back when conditions are right?

Seems sensible to me. I always thought that if something happened in the UK that put my life, and family at risk, I’d try to get to Canada or Australia where I have family, lesser to Germany, Belgium or Netherlands, where we have friends. But, when clear, I’d expect to come back home.

I'd try and get to Liverpool. Only an hour away and not part of the UK.

I'd be off like a shot as soon as I could get back though.

Gaza and being Muslim has played a huge part in why some of those MPs have been elected. They often get large numbers of the Muslim community voting for them

Policy is to address a specific issue, a plan are the actions/steps to achieve an objective.

Let’s take the renters rights bill you mentioned, what is the point of the bill? To improve renters rights, ok so why is that a good thing? Because it’s the right thing to do to help those whose housing situation is vunerable. Ok great, its seems like a good thing to me but it’s a policy to support an ideology (other ideologies on renters are available).

You could say that Reeves’s “fiscal rules” on the economy are a plan. What’s missing is the coherent steps to get to that goal, and, believe it or not, this government is more interest in social issues than businesses which doesn’t usually lend itself well to a coherent economic policy.

The way I read your second paragraph said the budget problems that Reeves faces are all down to the Tories, you stated it as fact (which is wrong) but in your first sentence you’d complained about political commentators stating things as fact when they don’t actually know. I may have misread what you meant of course.

I don’t get what your saying about the renters rights bill it’s a policy to achieve there plans for renters / fairer society or whatever you want to call it. Not sure why you missed that end step which was the logical conclusion of what you were saying and instead mentioned ideology. Ideology could be part of your plan, government X wants a conservative / Marxist / socialists society and X why or z is part the plan to achieve it.

There was a blackhole they didn’t know about in the last budget which was the fault of the last lot that had to be filled. (So your wrong ) That has nothing to do with what commentators are guessing may be in the next budget so I still don’t follow your point and your clearly don’t know since did not understand what I was saying.

As for the comments about Reeves she has more in a budget that meeting the rules. She had the tax and spend element which are designed to meet those rules.

Then there is the wider ideology behind it which is clearly a fairer society and more investment in public and private sector and higher growth that could follow from that

By the way I am not saying this lot are perfect or even have a full plan I just don’t believe they have no plan because people say so they don’t even back it up

Being Muslim doesn’t make you an Islamic or Islamist MP in the way you seem to be saying. Are Jewish MPs MPs who are Jewish or MPs who happen to be Jewish or what about Christians ? You wouldn’t say it about these other groups and you would very quickly be called anti semitic if you did so don’t be Islamophobic

and what happens if you have been settled for decades-bought a house, got a career, had children....

Its just another cruel policy by labour trying to stave off reform-when all they achieve by keep talking about it is push more of the fools to choose Reform.

I would prefer to keep my options open, Denmark is a bit cold, the Aussies a tad uncouth, America is obviously a no go. Im thinking if one has to flee then it seems fair to dip a toe in a few places before a decision has to be made.

South facing garden is a must though.

Imagine daring to question someone coming here from a safe country illegally, and asking for them to be sent back, called out for it and to now see a Labour Home Secretary say she will bring such a rule in and it barely even raising an eyebrow on here.

So you have to be a Muslim to care about death, war crimes and probable genocide ? And even if that were true. What exactly would the problem be with having a few MPs that care I am sure they have other ideas opinions policies and so will the people who vote for them

Come on. If pointing out your rights (i.e. that your stay may not be permanent) when you first rock up and you decide to ignore that, then that is on the individual

Do you really believe that people who have been here just shy of 20 years will be forcibly removed from the UK if conditions change in their home country?

I find that very doubtful, personally. I think a lot of genuine asylum seekers who have been forced to leave their country because they are opposed to a particularly unpleasant regime would want to move back when they can anyway. I friend of mine is Iranian and I suspect he would want to go back if the current regime fell.

But I very much doubt that type of economic migrants currently clogging up the asylum system would be deterred by only being granted a ‘temporary’ stay. Even if they have to reapply every couple of years, I suspect they’d still see it as worthwhile.
