Well lets hope this introspection starts with an honest reappraisal that we at home may be the piss takers. Lucky enough to have a council house? Yes thanks, and Ive been here 55yrs me and Clive. But Clive died so Im on my own here now, but I cant downsize cos its the family home you know. Where are your family then Elsie? Well our Sharon was brought up here but she met Gary round the corner at 15 and got pregnant so she got given her own house round the corner. Gary had already filled Shaznay though, so she had a house too. Anyway when Sharon and Gary eventually split they had their little Kaya and Beyonce and they had all kinds of problems and couldnt go to work and then one of the kids was diagnosed with adhd which was a shock so we had to sublet one of the council houses and then etc.........the migrants are not the problem here. We are. People have taken the piss for generations. If I was @ChicagoBlue here I would feel strongly enough to say, LOOK MORE CLOSELY TO HOME to see who the wankers are in this country
 
Just seen a bit on Sky. Refugee status is ‘temporary’ and will be sent home when the county is deemed safe

Someone needs to tell the Syrian restaurant round the corner from me. Are we seriously suggesting we will deport business owners, people with community ties, people with children, people half way through university courses because we have deemed the country safe?

It’s absurd. Unworkable - what if they have a mortgage? Maybe they won’t be eligible for one. Ok, they are on a rental agreement - we are going to kick them out and then the landlord potentially not have a tenant? We are encouraged to think of the landlord clad in these difficult times, afterall

What if they marry? Will that be banned unless they show suitable papers?

All sounds too Tory for me. No compassion and let’s pretend it does work. Tories and Reform will just move back to familiar territory like single mothers and the disabled

Don’t chase these people. Make the case, communicate the version and die with your boots on.

I find it boring. It feels we’ve spoken of nothing else for 20 years. That said, surely this can’t be an election issue in 3 years time, aren’t people exhausted of the conversation?

I’m more concerned about supermarkets and energy companies having our eyes out more than anything else

I’m the last one to pick of people of benefits but that PIP does seem open to abuse. It seems like an additional revenue stream to some people as it’s not means tested??!

I used to work in drug/mental health services so I know it’s not an easy ride, I worked there during the Tory rule and it was inhumane what they did

It’s funny, on one hand immigrants are all fighting age men who are going to change our society/culture for the worst through violence but on the other hand, they all need doctors and dentists - which is it? These people never make it clear because they don’t have to

They have a 95% compliant media so seamlessly go from from stereotypical immigrant to the other. David Baddiel in his book makes the same point about Jews in Nazi Germany/antisemitism is general - Jews are horrible blood suckers who are like rats and drain the state. Yet on the other hand, control the world bank and governments! Surely both can’t be true

Both obviously aren’t true but it fits which ever narrative/audience these people are speaking to at the time

quite probably but looking at Mahmood's history her parents could fall foul of her plans too. Reform and its spins offs are wankers who say stuff because it will never have to be enacted (in Reforms case if it did they would be the skip fires of all skip fires as they fuck up ) but post last years election both Labours and the Tories problems are that they are barking up the wrong Far Right tree
 
I’m not sure why everything goes from reflexively all or nothing, but no crisis can go “unmanned,” so we have to find the people responsible…and it isn’t us!!

The problem is always “other,” and when you can find a simply identifiable trait, that’s even better, because you can point to it and then everyone can join in.

The first decades of this century have been ones of mass migration, most of it forced by war and suffering. Hopefully, as the world calms the fuck down, asylum will be less of an issue. However, there will always be the bleeding hearts who open up welcoming arms to all comers. The problem, of course, is that those bleeding hearts are often the ones who never have to pay a penny to help feed, clothe, shelter, educate or medicate those all comers! That, too, is left to “others.”

Quandary.

Perhaps, putting the brakes on and getting one’s own house in order might be a good first step. Alas, I fear that, as Maggie suggested, Britons wanting everything for everyone paid by someone else might be running out of other people’s money!

Until the Benefits CULTURE in Britain is fixed, and until there are serious attempts made to tackle the obesity and related maladies epidemic, it is very hard to see how Britain can afford socialized medicine…and we can all see that it can’t! And, those are just the superficial, low-hanging fruit problems clearly visible from afar.

Dig deeper and you face other serious housing and infrastructure problems that an entitled population, who expect the moon and the stars for pennies, believe they deserve.

Empires fall. Some quicker than others.

I don’t think there is a benefit culture in the U.K. - we’ve have the Tories and austerity for the best part of 15yrs. There is very little fat to cut. Obviously there will be the odd case but there always will be

My concern is that whe doing whatever it is the government plan to do re immigration doesn’t work, who/whats next?

For some, any immigration is bad so you won’t make those happy whatever you do. But then it will simply go back to single mothers, the disabled and pick the next section

Some people won’t be happy until there are gated communities. Until, of course, they find they are the wrong side of the gate

It is clear that the seeing people on boats coming over is a problem. Ok, how about a processing centre in France - we’ve can’t do that either. Imagine the Mail headlines “Firsts ‘approved’ migrants come over on £200 a ticket ferry” - they alway make out that ‘they’ and taking something from ‘you’. Hence why they always bang on about hotels. Not failed businesses with rooms that charge hand over fist - it’s a lottery win for those Tory donors who own those properties

I don’t see the proposal as being that. Build a life here, contribute, apply to stay and stay. It tackles two narratives IMHO, the first they are here for a cushy life on benefits and secondly they don’t integrate. If you believe all immigrants are here to contribute then you should be pleased as no one will go back home. If you believe all immigrants are here to sponge you should be pleased as they’ll all go back home. No matter which of those “sides” you are on or somewhere in between nothing will change until post the next election as the first waypoint is 5 years, it’s clever politics.

I suspect she will struggle to get it through anyway as the left of the party can’t see it for what it is and are up in arms about it.

You can just see the receptionist at the surgery looking through the files to ensure Mr Khan gets an appointment before Mr Smith.

I wonder who people would blame when the immigrants go, and public services are still overstretched, you still cant find an NHS dentist, the roads are still crammed and it's still next to impossible to get on the housing ladder.

Perhaps we're looking at the wrong culprits (which is exactly what they want).
 
Am disgusted with the performative cruelty on offer from govt.

As the thread (see comment immediately above just for instance) shows, there's no way to win this - it doesn't matter how cruel govt is, facts don't matter and the far right will always just ratchet it up more.

It's a dead end; Labour voters will go Green and Lib Dem for sanity; Reform voters will vote for full fat racism.

Of course we can afford a socialised health service. As US health insurance premiums rocket, so could the USA.
 
I saw a clip on Instagram recently ,which was from a few weeks ago, of some knuckledraggers putting up a flag on a lamppost outside a pensioner's house. He came out and politely asked them not to do it. He received dogs abuse in return. I'd like to think he has a couple of sons with the tenacity of Liam Neeson's character from Taken, who saw that clip, and settled the score at a later date, but will have to be content with the probability of it being taken down a couple of days later.

On the plus side, I've noticed sentiment against flagnonces and also Reform, likes and comments wise on posts, are consistently as high as far right YouTube video viewing figures, which are depressingly high. It may seem from the one sided barrage from the media that the far right are currently the majority, but that's far from the case in reality, the disdain for those people and what they stand for is there in abundance. You just have to search for it, unlike the stuff coming the other way which unfortunately as I say is a barrage.


Labour shouldn't be kowtowing to these people with the immigration policy changes. They won't gain their votes, but will lose some of their own. They need to focus on the economic side of government, get better PR in and go after corporate tax dodgers.
