The Labour Party

absolutely nothing. He won a by election based on a conflict thousands of miles away. If your struggling to get a house or get your kid into a local school, I’d be very concerned that you now have an Mp who’s priority is nothing to do with that.

An mp who’s been openly anti semitic and basically won on a single issue. Have people in Rochdale lost their minds…
To be fair....they used to vote in Cyril Smith on a regular basis....

That is why I am depressed about what is happening in this country. I am worried not for myself, I doubt I'll be here for the election after this one, but for the younger generations. Especially my grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We have no one in politics or authority who is strong enough to get us back on an even keel. It would take more than one person I know, it would take the whole country to want to get back to a fully decent society. The silent majority/minority whatever it is needs to become more vocal and proactive. In my humble opionion. :-)
My greater concern is turnout, or lack thereof. Too many declare themselves politically apathetic and too many now politically alienated, so will they muster the will to pick up their pencils? The current situation, in turn, is allowing too many politicians to claim that they speak for the silent majority; they cannot all be.

Here's hoping for another hung parliament, necessitating more General Elections, if only to keep you on this mortal coil a while longer. ;-)

That's what I am hoping for when I say about the silent majority. Something has to get them out of not voting.

Thank you for the final sentence. I'm not giving up but boy oh boy do I sometimes feel my age when I look at the wider picture. I think I'm just going to concentrate on football in future.... well Manchester City anyway. :-)

Labour withdrew their support from their candidate. It was always going to be a lower turnout with an increased chance of a rogue result.

Emotions are running high with the situation in Israel/Gaza. It was their chance to voice their anti-genocide views.

When they see their fellow Muslims being slaughtered, it’s bound to have an influence on their feelings.

Loads of us here chose their vote because they felt there was a disproportionate number of people of colour in adverts and pundits on Soccer Saturday.

It‘s all part of the rich tapestry of life.

Ahh, good old Rockerdale. The place that time forgot.
Xanadu's was the only good thing about it back in the day but that closed about 20 years ago didn’t it?
I’m sure the oddballs who voted him in will be happy with the oddball that now represents them.
Sorry state of affairs all round.
