A defecting Tory is going to get a welcome as it will encourage other MPs to do the same. A defecting Tory being shunned will not. In the Elphicke case, each is using the other for their political ends. Is it edifying? No. Is it dirty, nasty politics? Yes.

Anything that accelerates the unravelling of the Tory party and this Govt is fair game as far as I’m concerned.

Given the way Tory MPs are abandoning Sunak and flocking to Starmer’s banner, I would suggest that they don’t share your confidence in Sunak’s ability to know his arse from his elbow.
