The Labour Party

That connection between share of the vote and seats is an absolute abortion. SNP 56 seats with 4.5% of the vote. DUP get 4 seats for 0.4%, whilst Conservatives get 3 seats for 14.5%. Can argue about 'effective' governments all you like, it's no wonder people feel disenfranchised with politics.

I didn't see the edited post until just now - forgive me or I would have answered it.

I'd say that rather highlights the point. That it happened, and then when we had a general election it was all very different. By-elections just don't tell us much, turnouts are always low, there are local issues at play when people don't feel they're electing a government and there's the obvious potential for protest votes.
All very different apart from him losing, you mean?

Not really. I’m no fan of his but, IF he gets a customs union tagged on to May’s ‘deal’ and ‘breaks’ the logjam and some sort of Brexit gets delivered, the Tory party would completely implode. In that respect, he’s played a blinder.
I don't agree he's played a blinder. All he's done is stand back and watched the Tory party tear itself to pieces. That's hardly "a blinder".

But that said, his lack of leadership and any principles whatsoever, have shown him to be the opportunist slimeball that we all know he is, and his popularity has suffered for it hugely. If the Tories were by some miracle able to get their shit together, Corbyn would be annihilated.

I did preface that with a big IF.
If however he doesn’t ‘save the day’ (he won’t), he’s allowed the Tory party to own Brexit. However it goes, unless it’s a brilliant 2 year success story, they’re absolutely history at the next election, Corbyn or not.

Who knows mate. 2 years is one hell of a long time in politics. When Mavis got in and before everyone realised what a complete and utter bellend she is, the Tories had a 20% lead in the polls. She managed to trash that in 10 minutes obviously.

Can you imagine if John McDonnell were to take over as Labour leader? He'd make Corbyn look like Winston Churchill.

Come on, you're far from stupid, you can see the difference between the two.
I can. And I can see the common denominator - Corbyn losing.

More seriously mate, I do take your point. But equally I do think when you get spectacularly bad results, such as losing a seat to the government in a mid-term by election, it's wrong to draw no inference from it whatsoever.

EDIT: And by the way "you're far from stupid" is about the biggest compliment I've received on here, so thanks for that ;-)

You’re right about time but, if Brexit is the shit storm you think it’ll be, all those disaffected voters will have no trouble voting for Corbyn. Not only that, but who thought the conservatives would become the ‘we don’t give a shit what business thinks’ party? Strange times we are living in and no mistake.

I can’t see how any government could survive a chaotic no deal, no matter how bad the leader of the opposition is.

I agree - great point

The results of a no deal would finish off the most competent of governments and as we all know, we don’t have even that

Big story in the Sunday Times blowing apart their cover-up and inaction over antisemitism in the party.

They’re fucked.
Labour move ahead in the polls cue more sensationalist headlines based on hacked emails, as City move towards an unprecedented quadruple we are fully expecting similar attacks which you passionately (quite rightly) defend. A smear campaign is a smear campaign.

Is there ever a point where you’ll accept it, Ever?
