The Labour Party

Not meaning to have a go bud, apologies if it came across that way.

Not at all mate, it’s a pretty lazy way of describing people, just because I don’t share the same views.

Without getting too deep, labelling people as I have is prob one of the reasons it doesn’t feel like Britain is having one it’s finest moments right now

Although RLB £100 at 7/2 is looking very, very tempting. I still think she will win it. No-one thought Milliband would win and ditto Corbyn, but the party members had other ideas. Is there any evidence that they have en-masse, changed their tune? I don't think there is. They are still in their "it was the right policies" coma.
To start with there was/is a misconception about how much support JC had. It was 60-70% of members pre election (not 90+). Only needs 10% of Corbyn supporters to favour a moderate. Momentum are about 10% of the vote and even some of them may have had a rude awakening.

While I'm cautious of forming views from what goes on Twitter, there is a clear shift. The poll of members confirmed it and RLB seems to be struggling to me. I think she thought all she had to do was get the nod and that would be it. The scale of defeat has been a game changer.

Lots of evidence if you follow closely...

Get your money on Starmer.

Gardiner's to make it 7.

This is turning into our own democratic presidential race.

Well I’d argue the ‘take back control of our borders’ resonated well amongst a substantial number of people and I’d say they’d subsequently expect to see less low skilled foreign workers in their towns. If the points system dictates that fruit pickers are high value as there’s no one here who wants to do it, we’re just continuing with what we’ve got already albeit under a different name. Granted I’m using a bit of a cliche here, but people are going to expect to see some tangible difference on immigration post EU departure

I get your point but it’s one in which will rarely, if at ever, happen. The kinds of skills we’ll miss are likely to be quite specific and with only focusing the points to get you in on areas we are short, there will be a tangible difference anyway.

I’m also not particularly keen on describing concerns over immigration as “knuckle dragging”. We had 13 years of New Labour encouraging as much immigration as possible into the country, no matter the skills and it’s resulted in some communities changing drastically, our infrastructure and housing being heavily burdened and a lack of integration in some areas.

Being concerned with the above doesn’t make someone unevolved.

Anyway as I say, being specific on what skills to you need, within a points system, is going to massively reduce the 100,000’s that come net per year now.

I go 5/2 and then got 4/1

I am not seeing it as certain -more likely an even money chance - so the odds are/were just wrong
She's drifted to 9/2 now absolutely friendlies in the betting. Keir Starmer getting hammered in to short odds on.

I'm not sure why all the right were saying she's a certainty.

It was unnecessarily pejorative true. Just a bit of post-Brexit toy-throwing because EU migration is a net contributor to the economy.

Agree the points system should bring it down in theory - we can say no to everyone now. I guess it depends on the needs of the economy as to what happens. Hopefully it doesn’t annoy the people worried about social issues, housing etc.

The great thing is we can change it, whenever we wish.

I’m a remainer and I’ve championed the fact of EU migrants’ contribution to our economy, they really are great for us and the economy but there’s an argument for infrastructure stress and the moral right to be able to set your own policy.

Will Labour become a rejoiner party, or are they now willing to accept the referendum result? Or does that depend on the new leadership? Genuine questions btw.

I think it probably depends on how the economy goes over the next five years. If it’s on the floor, they’ll be the rejoining party and, if it’s not, Brexit won’t get a mention.

So you pay to be a Labour party member so you can vote for an unelectable opposition leader. Of course you do. How noble.
I have been a trade union member all my life and as I am now retired I pay something like £2.21 per month and I still get benefits from the Union one of which is a vote in the Labour leadership election.
The free legal advice and assistance is worth more than the £2.21 so I am more practical than nobel.

I will make a definitive statement, bookmark if you like, that this country has about as much chance of rejoining
the EU, as the Rags have of hiring Pep Guardiola.

Gardiner and Thornberry would be the condescension dream team with their insufferable voices and tone.
