The Lack of Atmosphere

I'll add my thoughts later about the atmosphere.

However, noticed the first set of fans leaving quickly up the Kippax steps with *17 minutes* to go. Then the trickle became a constant stream.

Even Cundy on Talkshite noticed all the empty seats towards the end of the match, even though it was still in the balance.

But, *17 minutes* to go. Seriously, don't bother coming!

For me the club are trying to do to much. Less is more

It seems we have a group of people doing stuff in the square and then a group doing stuff in the stadium. Seems to be no link or direction in my opinion.

We have to stop having blue moon twice before kick off its so EMBARRASSING ! Once is enough. Lets have some other city songs. The guy with the guitar is really good but we dont need it every game.

Music is a mood enhancer and the music we play at the club before kick off is not appropriate. The club are trying to be to cool with their music selection. Play city tracks, simple. Whilst im on this matter stop changing the music the players come out to. Brainbug track served us well.

What happend to the family stand activities / buzz ? Nothing going on anymore.

What happend to the stand banter ? lets start slagging each other off again :-)

Sort the metro out and fans wont leave early. Its kaos after the game and only a matter of time somebody gets hurt.
Im not surprised people go early especially with children. The club need to step in here and not leave to the metro staff.

The most probable reason is we expect too much now! shame

Well thats my opinion.

Come on CITY.

This was embarassing, it wasn't just a handful of people it was quite a few that were leaving very early.

Without turning this into an early leaving thread, the club really need to look into it. Perhaps a survey to identify the reasons and if the main one is traffic then something could be done to try and solve it.

I also really can't understand why so many people start leaving with 5-10 mins to go. Must look terrible to the players when the ground starts emptying when they're trying to save the game. Just not the right signal.

The last 5 mins of most games are partially spoiled for me by the number of people standing up, pushing past, "Excuse me, excuse me, sorry, excuse me" ... stopping to say their goodbyes to people they know: "See you next week, Bill" ... "Didn't think much of tonight, did you ?" ... "Are you parked in the usual place ?" etc, etc.

All this while the game is actually still going on behind them !

Perhaps we need to lock the doors until the final whistle (fire regulations not withstanding).

Since my 2 front teeth were removed in august after being made loose via our 2011 semi final my 2 false teeth are a bit loose due to the fact that they were made 2 years before I had the courage to have the loose ones out, I am now paying the price for this as I have to stay calmer as against Watford I had to sneekily pick the said 2 false teeth from out of a girls coat in front of me after a loud rant about something.... Blame me for the lack of atmosphere, its my fault...

yeah and if there is a bit of action on the pitch stop in front of you and watch.....until my gob opens.

I think what the 1894 group are trying to do is great... And the more people get behind them, the bigger the say they will have, and the more the club will have to listen.

I don't want singers on the pitch before games at half time or whenever...

I want Manchester music playing before games in the ground and on concourses etc... The other season when they had the heartbeat just before the teams were coming ouot was good too.

The more supporters that get behind that group and help out in anyway they can then the better it will be, and the sooner the better, as when the stadium is expanding, with all these 'new fans' coming to games, a lot of them won't know about the bad times and many of the songs (we're not really here for one example).

Fans can get behind the group and give ideas at 1894group.co.uk

As said the more people that support this group the more the fans will have a say... Instead of people being employed from different countries or regions of England that decide what sort of atmosphere they want at games.

I was sat in 304 last night with around 7 or 8 orientals sat behind me all talking loudly in mandarin all through the game, and whenever Chelsea showed a bit of skill or when they hit the woodwork a big whoooaahh or wooooo went up with the asians. When City attacked....nothing was heard from them, weird. I know its a sign of the times with City attracting foreign fans but it was like sitting in the corporate away section last night.

Too many tourists who don't give a sh!t if we win or lose. This is the main reason why our atmosphere is rubbish, our support has become saturated by Johnny come lately's.

Nothing to do with Tourists or Come latelys. The people around me in the North Stand have been going for years and years. They are, quite simply, lazy fans who don't want to put any effort into supporting the team.

If you can't be arsed shouting your team on in a game like last night, why are you there FFS?

Think its a change in mentality these days. We used to have to entertain ourselves because the football was shit, these days people go to city to be entertained(Theres playstations and everything in the ground) usually the first 10 minutes is ok, then if we havent scored it falls silent, maybe the type of football atmospheres we want to come back never will?

I fucking hope it does though.

I have to say, it is not 'tourists' fault about the lack of atmosphere! It is down to City fans, the ones sat to the left or right of you who continually detract for any atmosphere with their apathy.

I was disgusted last night, no willingness, no passion, having Hart try and get the singing going is embarrassing frankly. A big game, in the balance, and the fans could have tipped that. I've been at City when there's been brilliant atmospheres, but it's been too far and few between.

To address the leaving early, that's up to the club to make leaving the stadium after FT easy and accessible. If it's no hassle getting back after the game, there's no reason to 'beat the traffic', or make sure you can get on a tram/bus easy enough.

But it takes individuals or small groups to get an atmosphere going.

It's not reached anything like this point yet. I see perrenials sitting there anxious, shouting abuse at whoever there pet hate player is (whether its his fault or not) but not getting behind the team. This team has given us joy beyond our expectations and we can't back them when they need a lift? very poor.

Its a shame ....in the colin bell stand people look at you funny if you start chanting/singing .... Ive been to england games & the band gets people going. Its sad to get to this but maybe City need to be creative about how to improve atmosphere. If people dont want to chant & sing anymore maybe a guy banging on a big drum and a trumpet will help!!!

I know players dont like too - but maybe a couple of key City players need to come out and say something on TV ... Bit like the old Roy Keane speach about the 'cucumber sandwich brigade'

In CB3 in front of me and the lad, were three Oriental gentlemen, who did nothing for the entire 90 minutes than snap away on their bastard expensive cameras.Even snapping away at half time when the guy won the trip to Abu Dhabi.Fuck me as one took a snap they then proceeded to show one another what shots they had taken.
If you are reading this,do me a favour ... fuck off to another part of the ground and annoy some other fuckers.I thank you !!

^^^^ This -

We've been 3-0 down when in lower divisions and the atmosphere has been better than it is at the Etihad. I do sense it is a new breed of fans but they can't be all to blame. Now it seems to me the majority turn up expecting to win, and if we don't get an early goal there are moans and groans in the ground.

The price of the beer doesn't help either, as people venture to different local pubs to get a cheaper pint. If they brought the price of beer down, many fans I presume would gather on the concourses prior to kick off for a couple of beers and a sing-song. It shouldn't matter who we play, and never did matter when we were in the lower divisions, or fighting to stay in the premier league under Pearce et al. But now it does seem to matter.

As I said earlier give the 1894 group help - the bigger the group the more say we us fans will have in how the atmosphere can be improved... Instead of a numpty earning a good few grand who has ideas but none of them what we want.

Take a breath, push the air through your vocal chords and out your mouth...don't be stifled and worried about what all the silent people around you are thinking and voila... you are making a positive contribution to the atmosphere. If even 20% of the lower tier did this very simple thing consistently then we would have a good atmosphere regardless of any other factors.

It was the same at Maine Rd.

The Platt lane was dead

The Main stand was dead.

Even the old Kippax was swapped for the North stand bit which stood and maybe AA lower of the new Kippax.

This is not new.

The only games we went mental for were the big games like Utd or big cup games. same now.

Keep repeating myself. We miss a singing section and a safe standing area. SSA behind both goals and both for homefans who like to stand up (obviously) and start the singing.
