The Lake District Is One Big Lake

Dave was in Carlisle today in his wellies.
He 'gets it' and 'he's staying on it' , so that will give reassurance to people affected.
Shame that not enough was spent on flood defences or action taken by the various agencies when it was obvious that the weather was going to be atrocious in the North West this weekend.
Job done Dave.

As ever kicks it into the long grass in the hopes the problem goes away. Must be worried it happens in his own constituency again like last time. Then again he can write a stern letter to the Environment Agency complaining that they are making cuts and providing an inadequate service. To be honest he's wasting his time with that and writing to his council and the Police Chief he should go direct to the top and write a letter of complaint to the PM ................... hang on...............

Apparently the flood defense system built around Cockermouth after the 2009 floods, meant that the flood level at the weekend (after a similar amount of rainfall) was 3ft rather than 9ft.

Does that represent a success or a failure?

Both I suppose - its a hollow victory if you are still flooded - anybody ( everybody? ) shorter than 9ft tall won't drown - and Dave can say hey I cut investment but it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
From what I have seen of flooded houses I don't think it matters - 3 foot or 9 foot and your ground floor and all its contents are fucked - months out of your house loads of upheaval - all to probably repeated in about 3 or 4 years time sadly

I was up Wenslydale today - where the cheese is from - past Leyburn the road is flooded - proper flooded - and the diversion is 10 miles of flooded roller coaster too - had bow waves over the bonnet and was shitting myself !! And I was on the "dry side" of the UK ffs !!

Poor bastards have a £10k excess on their properties for flood damage in other words they are fucked
