I always bracket it with Mona Lisa, Get Carter (of course, though set oop North) and to a lesser extent Layer Cake and The Crying Game, as top drawer in its genre.

My favourite Brit crime film is Sexy Beast, along with those you have quoted. Surely that one is in the top bracket?
I also like The Bank Job with Jason Statham for some reason, though it's a bit less ambitious in scal than the above.

From my pretty in depth reading, its if the krays met anyone. Their legend is all pretty mythical and they werent a patch on even most other london crime groups.
