The Maginot Line

Once again, Uncle Sam saved your sorry arses
Actually it was the supreme sacrifices and outstanding bravery of the Soviet armed forces and people who saved all of our arses.

One of this country's most cowardly and shameful acts in its entire history that immediately after the war we turned away from our soviet allies and instead cosied upto the yanks. The yanks who swanned over here after we had already fought the Germans to a draw in Western Europe and proceeded to bleed us dry for the next 60 years.

This country should have soviet bases all over it instead of American ones.

Disgraceful and shameful.

The Soviets weren't our allies in 1939.

Instead, they collaborated with the Nazis to start the war in the first place, helping to take out one of our key allies in the process.

The Americans weren't our allies in 1939 either. They happily stood by and watched our island home take a beating day and night for years, avariciously weighing up how much cold hard cash they could make out of the situation. They were convinced we would lose.

The soviets sacrificed tens of millions of lives fighting our enemy for us. Literally saving our country.

Thank god for uncle Joe. Without him we wouldn't have a country today.

I agree that the Soviet land forces were the difference, but I wouldnt fancy soviet bases here, thank you.
US president signed an exec order converting lend lease to debt the day after VJ Day. Challenged on the issue of bankrupting his ally, claimed he didn't understand what he was doing.

I would say our most shameful act directly after the war and during the last few months tbf was what we did to the partizans of a few nations that basically fought a war on the mainland of europe throughout.

Especially the atroitious intervention in greece where we sided with the facists greeks we had just defeated and masacred those that were our allies

On the actual topic, while some say the line was a failure, it did actually do it's job, it forced Germany to go through Belgium and gave the French army time to regroup and send a substantial force to support it's border garrisons.

Where it went wrong was the French generals were useless stategically and left too many forces in the south, and that they didn't use the effectiveness of the Maginot line to be used as an offensive fortification and base for a counter invasion of Germany which would have spread the german line whose bulk of forces were still in east germany and poland.

The french did partially invade tbf but changed their mind amd went back to the maginot line silly cunts
