The Manager

Not over reacting really but all the tactical geniuses on here make me laugh at times, they think they know better than Mancini and all his coaches. We've got 3 trophies under Mancini up to now and he will win us a lot more and all the coaches on here moaning that he's tactically naive in Europe will eat their words when we win the big one in the not so distant future.
I doubt anyone thinks they know better than Roberto 99.9% of the time. But you do football fans a disservice. Many footy fans are extremely knowledgable about the game and through experiences of seeing what managers have done wrong and rectified in the past they can see where things aren't working or aren't quite right in front of their eyes.

How many times have you sat at the game and though "that's not working, xxx needs to come on and we need to change the formation to xxx" only for the manager to do exactly what you say? Or how many times has it not happened and we ended up not getting what we wanted?

In principal football is a simple sport - Work hard to find space to be passed the ball in, receive the ball and pass it to someone else who has worked hard to find space to be passed the ball in, and don't leave gaps defensively. At the same time it is very easy to get wrong and many regular fans can see those things.

It's a certainty Roberto will watch that game back and say to himself "I got xxx wrong, I should have done xxx instead".

We COULD blame the manager , yeah ....

but then again we could also ask Javi Garcia why he didn't bust a gut to get to Marcello a bit quicker for Madrids first goal ...

we might also ask Vincent Kompany why he didn't 'stand tall' in front of Ronaldos winning shot , instead of ducking .... something that it looked like Joe Hart immediately picked up on after the shot had beaten him.

we could also ask Zabaleta why he didn't 'shepherd' Ronaldo out wide in the first place , instead of allowing him to cut inside for his 'final pop' at goal ?

we could ALWAYS ask questions , couldn't we???
i will ask one... why did he drop lescott...shocking decision!!!
To be fair I thought Nastisic had a pretty good game.
He looks quicker than Lescott and I suspect Mancini preferred him tonight down the left to counter Di Maria and Arbeloa's pace.
Either that or maybe Joleon not 100%
Alternatively RM could be mad.....
turned for the second goal, kompany unsettled all game, why change the best defensive partnership for the big games in europe...

Billy shears, Danburger spot on Milner makkes Glen Johnson look good for England because he covers his defensive role, yet the boss never seems to pick him. Look at the game at OT last season has a blinder and the hardly gets picked.

Stop reading the papers - he made nearly 50 appearances for club and country last season

most of them off the bench or he plays great one game then gets dropped

Yeah we all have our views on the game and everyone's a frustrated manager... myself included, it's a part of football that should never change I agree, but sometimes we have to get the facts right before we speak about certain acts or decisions made by the manager. It's him who's in the know and it's us on the outside just guessing at what we see, but in no way was I suggesting that we as football fans are unknowledgeable, I saw it as an attack on the manager but after reading the OP maybe I was too hasty.

5 minutes of defensive discipline away from recording one of the best results in the history of our club today. Slim margins. Can't blame too much on Mancini today, we simply aren't as good as Real Madrid yet! Just like Newcastle fans can't blame Alan Pardew if they lose to us, because they aren't as good as us.

It's that simple really, they are better than us in nearly every department on the pitch and have spent more money than us to get to that level too.

Obviously Roberto has many positives but his tactics in Europe are very poor.

Last year we were far to open and attacking.

This game we gave far to much space to Ronaldo. We also defended very deep, which of itself is OK but if you do that playing 3 midgets up front was never going to work. In fact Nasri's injury helped as Kolarov gave us far more defensively and in an attacking sense than the ineffectual frenchman.

If you are going to defend deep you need like Chelsea last year a Drogba. We don-t have one but at least Edin has a bit of height. We were more of a threat with him on.

We didn't deserve to win. First half we were lucky.

How did we not realise after 20 mins when we should have been 3-0 down that perhaps doubling up on Ronaldo could be a useful tactic. Turned out to be our downfall in the end up, after we had the whole game to correct it.
yeah, because it's that easy.

you just figured out how to stop ronaldo!!

He started most of them. He's a player within a very good squad. I like him a lot but the manager has earned the right to select the team he chooses

Correct.

Experience counts too
