The N word

Words are not racist. People are. I find the term "the N word" considerably more offensive than the word ******. Because "the N word" implies offence and therefore racism whereas ****** is only racist when in context. Hence it's not racist or offensive when used in rap or as a term of friendship or endearment. "The N word" is always offensive.

Anyone here ever been called ******?

lol, I used to help run a Hiphop website, did journalistic stuff for the site and got to know a vast mix of people from all different races.
Anyway during conversations with groups of predominantly black guys I'd be called ******, lol... 'Sup Nigga and then lead onto whatever they was going to say.
Nothing was ever said about it, it was their choice/freedom to use this term and in whatever context.

As I said above, it's just a word. don't be offended.

Go into a field and approach a Cow. Call this Cow a ****.
The Cow will look at you with a blank expression.

WTF are you going on about Human being?

as anyone with a smidgeon of common sense knows it's all down to context

this recent stink concerning Clarkson's alleged use of a word indiscriminatingly whilst talking about two cars whilst reciting a traditional nursery rhyme that was never actually aired (but re-shot & edited for this very purpose several years ago) seems a bit rich, but then I'm not one of the PC brigade.

people will find offence at the drop of a hat, and frequently do

personally I'm offended by Piers Morgan's behaviour over this, and I'm not usually one to blast him (but he deserves both barrels over this sort of petty small-mindedness)

* and I find the word in question too repugnant to mention it personally myself under any context (and kind of flinch when I've heard girlfriends recounting they've been called it to me) but that doesn't make it pejorative when two friends use it with each other or lay claim to variations of it, Dave Chappelle being a prime example in virtually all of his comedy routines.

Funny this; (unfortunately) just got in from a staff night out. Those who know me away from the forum know I'm not one for rap/hip-hop nights so when I found out the staff night out was on 'black' (debate that lads, the term used for the towns busiest club event on a Thursday), I wasn't particularly arsed for it. I was amazed at the whole place going mad for this, including your 6'2, ginger, pale as fook and skinnier than Ghandi wankers.

Give me a house night on a winters night any day of the week.

Anyway - From what my bonce can make out atm, it's context.

So saturday, if anyone hears me calling yaya a ******, just understand that I mean it in a friendly way. I'm sure he listens to hip hop so he'll "get it" and if he doesn't , obviously its a PC WORLD GONE MAD.

Id bet anything black people would trade their ability to call each other by "the N word" for all the privilege whites are afforded in life. How selfish are people that they can't let a group of tremendously discriminated people have a word? One word, thats all they get. "they also get a history month, and BET, whats that about?"

The retarded oaf from top gear slips up so now people are going to decide ****** isn't a racial slur?unreal.

I'm also not offended by Piers at all. I have to pay some ridiculous amount of money for tv channels I never watch, and one of them employs some guy that keeps saying racist shit, but because he has yellow teeth, shitty hair , and makes simple joke, everyone thinks he's folksy and can relate to him. fuck him.

If its acceptable in their own culture to call one another it, Why can't it be used by other cultures?

Instead of asking vague, meaningless questions without actually expressing an opinion, why not just tell us what you think?

Or I'll ask you a question. Would you feel comfortable to walk up to a black man you didn't know and address him as a ****** if you'd just heard him use the same word to a third person?

If you wouldn't, that's probably answered your question hasn't it?

I thought it was a personally acceptable question to ask, my opinion is no i wouldn't call them a N***** as I wouldn't call anybody a C***. No need to try and be clever with your attitude response.

*applauds*

Lots of blues called themselves "Bitter Berties from Stockport" when we were shit, partly as a coping mechanism and partly to deflect the jibes back to their original source and also by adopting those original comments in a different tone and context you can take a degree of ownership of them, thus diminishing the power behind the original intent of those words .

It didn't mean they were happy about the comments in the first place.

Its a complete and utter farce that its called the N word, its not a very nice word, granted but its a word all the same and saying it does not make you a racist if it is said in the right context and not to disrespect a black person.

The problem we have is that the term racism has grown out of all proportion and like anything else in life, if its trivialised, misused & misunderstood the point and meaning are lost.

You dont have to pay ridiculous money for tv channels especially if you dont watch it.
I think the debate has been going on for 10 years of whether its still a racial slur as it was as it has been completely flipped. They took that word back to change its context and they have very much achieved that so then it does become a context issue. Although saying that I wouldn't use it and nor would most right minded people.
Also I hardly find it shocking that people in there 50's and 60's are a tad more racist than there children and grandchildren
In short racists are cunts
