The official EDS and academy thread 2011/12

Greg Hartley, Dedryck Boyata, Ben Mee, Kieran Trippier, Ryan McGivern, Andrew Tutte , Vladimír Weiss, Scott Kay, David Ball, Róbert Mak, Donal McDermott, Filip Mentel, Abdi Ibrahim, Angelos Tsiaklis, Alex Nimely-Tchuimeni , James Poole.

That team that ran away with the league two years running, won more of less every tournament they competed in and won the FA Youth cup has produced players for Rochdale, Huddersfield, Macclesfield, Hartlepool and Wrexham!

So yeah lets focus on results rather than the development of players....................[/quote]

not one of those players is in the first team, who cares if we produce them for rochdale all lower league teams I want to be seeing them in a city shirt, however I cant see any being given a chance, people say players like razak and scappuzzi got a chance, an odd game, half an hour hear or there is not a chance.

Our accelerated spending is coming to an end though, so they will have more of a chance in future - if they're good enough. For example by the time Razak is fully ready to be a City player, Yaya will be 32/33 so if Razak is good enough by then to fill his boots and we don't just buy a replacement, there is his chance.

I managed to get over to the Nextgen game against Barca on Thursday, The first 20 minutes were quite even, Hiwula had two great chances to score but fluffed them both when it was probably easier to score. Straight after the second miss Barca went up the other end and scored, from then on in it was all Barcelona in a typical performance with fast passing and closing down city every time they lost the ball. Suarez played very well for city, but unforunately he was on a different planet to the rest of the team, he got injured (knee) half way through the second half, he was in agony having treatment hopefully it was an impact injury rather than a tear/pull. Johansen made some good saves, and Coulson played well at full back, Roman got into the game in the second half after being quiet in the first. Henshall was the biggest disappointment he was very poor. Rekik also didnt stand out, which i would have expected, he was caught on the ball a number of times and tended to pick the wrong pass.

Thanks for that.Glad to hear Coulson had a good game.he's been coming on quite well I think and has good attacking instincts. Not at all surprised to hear your assessment about Henshall.

Anyone know the plans for after NextGen? We have a couple of games in the Central League against Preston/Morecambe and that's it.

I believe there were supposed to be prestige friendlies against top clubs but it looks like they won't happen now.

NextGenSeries NextGeneration
TEAM NEWS: Man City EDS - Halsall - Smith - Plummer - Clowes - Tse - Meppen-Walters - Roman - Rusnak - Hiwula - Suarez - Drury #NextGen

don't know if this will work but worth a go

2-0, this NextGen is just becoming a huge embarrassment to the club, especially considering it gets press coverage.

Celtic are passing the ball far better than we are, not being flashy but making sure they find the man and move the ball at a good tempo. Their first touch seems better too.

I'm watching it and we're being completely outplayed. The interplay between Suarez, Roman, and Rusnak is really nice when they have a chance but Celtic currently passing us off the pitch.

We have plenty of promising flair/creative players but defensively we're not very good and look as shaky as the first team did off set-pieces the other day.

Hysterical overreaction of the night.
It's about producing players with a chance of developing to the first team, not winning poxy meaningless youth trophies.
The FA Youth Cup winning team got some great press but only Sturridge has made it to the big time, and that's with someone else.

2-0

Goals here.

I know exactly what youth teams are about and have said much the same about the FA Youth Cup team down to making a Where Are They Now? post - but the NextGen is the most highly publicised youth event European football has seen for a long time, if not ever. It gets coverage in all the international newspapers and our club has always preached the quality of our youth system so the successive defeats (5 if we lose tonight) will be an embarrassment to them because we were considered one of the big dogs going into it and have been shown up.

Perspective, mate.Perspective.

I follow our club's youth system pretty closely so have a sense of perspective and there is no learning experience to be had from chasing the ball around for 80% of the game as Celtic pass us off the park. Bit of a reality check really, our U18 team seems better than this hybrid team coached by a different person to the U18 side.

Meanwhile the stream has died it looks like.
