This is all well and good but what about games in the new year & spring - there is still a shortage of fixtures then - I really think this has not been fully thought through.

Wont the elite group stage and the two other groups provide fixtures for the new year?

Yes, the graph is confusing but it says it on there. From Aug to Dec we will be in group C with Chelsea, Liverpool, Palace, Middlesbrough, Wolves and Fulham which will give us 12 games.

Then from Jan to May we will play in a group of 8 depending on where we finish in the league. If we finish in the top two we will play in the Elite Group, 3rd to 5th Qual Group 1, 6th-7th Qual Group 2. Providing another 14 games. My prediction based on how good an academy is and how they have performed last few years would be City, Chelsea, United, Villa, Southampton, Arsenal, Everton and West Ham.

Then the top 3 go to a play off semi and then a final.

So in total we would play 26 league games minimum, with 6 minimum european games bringing a total of 32 minimum games with the added bonus of 2 more in the league and 4 in europe through progress.

Then take into account the Manchester Senior Cup against United, Bolton, Stockport, Bury, Oldham ect plus the Central Lancashire cup and we are looking at a minimum 40 game season with 34 of them against top class opposition.

Fantastic news and makes last year look even more stupid than it was. Plenty of games for our youngsters to develop, no more stalling hopefully.

Yeah should have read further because the original publications only mentioned the details if you finished top 2/3 depending on the group - so from those original details if you finished outside the top you had no more fixtures very akin to the nextgen system. But yes - looks very good that now - will be interesting to see how the three squads evolve - hopefully they can settle on a core of a team and they can train together so there is not the debacle that was last season where some players shoehorned in made it impossible to play as a unit/team.

Based on the newly revealed NextGen squad lists, we have a very strong squad this year including Rekik, Suarez, Hiwula, Lopes, Evans, Pozo, and Smith-Brown. No Mathias Bossaerts on the list though.

I don't think that the squad list on their site are the only players we can use - I just think its an initial one that was submitted in the last couple of weeks.

For anyone who's still a bit confused:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/EDS-news/2012/EDS-U21-League-system-explained" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/EDS-news/201 ... -explained</a>

I like the bit about having to play at least two games, plus any play-offs, semi-finals and finals at the Etihad, will hopefully give the guys more motivation to make it to the first team, as if any more was needed.

I notice there's no mention of pricing in the above article though, do people expect it to be similar to the EDS matches last year?

Abdul Rahmann, Vlad Marin and a few other trialists playing against TNS at the moment.
If your on Twitter give @MCFC_NGEN_ACAD a follow, full text commentary for everything to do with the academy.

Dear oh dear, not a good start for Lombardo. Last second win over Stockport, loss to Oldham, getting hammered by TNS.

TNS looked a real team and were older and stronger. We had a mixture of players not used to playing together.Triallists, new guys like Rahman and for some reason Mancini so I would not take this to be indicative of how we will fair in the forthcoming league.
I was disappointed though in Suarez,Lopes and Evans who just didnt show well imo.
