How good would Lescott look if you played him as a left winger like Blackburn did Rekik at first? Then they moved him to left-back, it seems no one will play him in his natural position and English clubs have an obsession with turning central defenders into full-backs (remember Boyata, who started as a highly competent CB, being made to play right-back at Bolton).

Rekik will never be a centre half in my eyes. He is a left back.

Rekik caught our eye as a centre-back at Feyenoord, has mostly played for our reserves at centre-back, and played for our first team once as left-back because neither Clichy or Kolarov were fit. I'm not seeing why Rekik is more of a left-back than centre-back especially as he isn't much of an attacking threat. He's reminded me of a baby Thiago Silva when I've seen him at CB. I'd rather see him as Nastasic's deputy as left-footed central defender but I suppose if he's able to play left-back too that would increase his chances of getting minutes.

I don't think he has the pace to be a centre half and i don't think he is the best in the air. Obviously the 2nd bit can be changed but not the first. He would have done a better job than Kolarov yesterday though, that's a fact we can surely both agree on!

Centre back is more speed of thought than pure pace

You are right but i wouldn't fancy him in a one on one against Agbonlahor or Hazard for example.

I once read an article on Bellamy and he said when he was in his prime as a youngster he was playing against Arsenal....

Bellamy on his toughest opponent: " Tony Adams is the best centre back I ever played against. He taught me a football lesson when I played against him while I was at Coventry City. I couldn't get near him.

"I thought he was slow, which he was, but when you are five seconds ahead of an opponent in your mind, which he was, it doesn't matter how slow you are.

"I thought I was getting on to a ball from a flick-on and by the time I had turned round thinking I was in the clear, he was bringing it out of defence. I got substituted on 70 minutes and I remember thinking 'I am nowhere near good enough to play in this league'.

To me Rekik looks ahead of his peers at his age and looks very mature for his age. If he continues this he won't need pace. He is no T.Silva but he is quicker than most of the CB in the prem. Just too slow to be a LB I think. Mancini has turned Zaba into one of the finest RB's however and many thought he was a bit slow and just a utility player.
