It's about time we had a thread dedicated to the original home of MCFC's singing stand the fantastic Kippax Street stand.

I'd love to see some old footage as for the life of me I can't find anything decent

Some come on Gary James,Ric etc post some good footage and pictures.

Anybody got a picture of our big flag from the 90's?

Was only talking about the old days in the Kippax this morning to my wife. Great great days and very fondly remembered.
Would love to see some old footage.
Its getting harder to remember how much fun it all used to be since all-seater stadiums and perfect pitches have become the norm.
When the 3rd round of the FA Cup comes round and they start showing old clips from the 70's, its amazing that some of these games ever took place in those terrible pitches, nowadays they'd just call them off as unplayable and unsafe.

Looks like Villa Park to me wiv a lot of sad ipswich fans to our left they sure as hell never brought that many to Maine Road.

I remember the buzz on the Kippax arriving for the bigger games when you knew you'd have to get in that bit earlier to make sure you'd get your usual spec. Even better when the away section next to us was packed. No need in those days for the club or fans to pre-arrange something to improve the atmosphere.

I used to go in the Main Stand once a season just so I could view the Kippax from the other side.

Nice one, been after a picture of the flag for a while!

It was bought through the proceeds from the sale of the Blue Print fanzine. Think it cost around £1400 - but each time it was used it would get little rips in it here and there and cost about £100 to repair each game!

It would be kept at Frank 'Bananna man' Newton's house and I had a Ford Escort estate that it could just about squeeze into. We would park in the Kippax Car park and then we'd have to badger about 8 / 10 fans to help carry it through the turnstiles. On more than one occasion, when we were wrapping it up into a long roll to carry it through, a kid would ask to get inside it... as long as they weren't to big we would and they would get in for free, wrapped inside the flag!

After the game, trying to badger a load of fans to take it back to the car was always more difficult than asking them to get it in the ground!

We were going to bring it out for the first game of the re-opened Kippax but the club said 'no' as it wasn't fire proofed material. It rotted away in Frank's celler before being taken to the tip a few years later.....
