Ah, the old myth that the Kippax was always bouncing and the atmosphere was electric

My memories are tarnished with images like these

How about...

1957 unroofed but lots of great shots of the crowd on the Popular Side (Kippax) - typical City game though! CITY flag flying proudly:

Typical City!

I grew up on the Kippax as did my dad before me.

Used to sit on one of the railings that had a bit of concrete underneath so could rest my feet, it was always full of kids, and if we scored and you got pushed off you had to get back on sharpish before some other kid nicked your spot and you had to try and watch the game between blokes heads who were always far too big!

When the old Kippax was torn down my dad managed to get a bit of concrete from someone he knew was a security guard at Maine Road. He got someone else (it was always someone he knew "from the pub", what happened to those days!?!) to mount it, with a City badge on and a metal label saying "Kippax Stand", it only cost him a few beers but he was offered all sorts for it when people saw the end result, even though it could have been contrete from anywhere. The security guard and trophy maker made a nice little earner out of it in the end, and I still have it at home pride of place, which I'll pass on to my kids in time. God knows why City didn't do anything with the rubble as whole families, like mine, grew up on that stand.

Imagining Gladys Knight's Memories playing in the background as I type...

Remember leaving down the main steps from the top of the Kippax when I was a kid, basically carried down by the crowd, feet not touching the floor until 5 yards after the bottom step.

Stood along side the away supporters at the back of the Kippax, City score the crowd surges forward and you are carried like your on a surf board 20 yards towards the pitch.

Fantastic memories..

Mad Eye Screamer - or Gary James.......

That flag, just how big was it - I know it was fookin huge, but what was the size of it.
