The only way to get around Platini's anti-City stance

Flap flap flap.

THose of us with any sense know this will never happen.

If UEFA push it the top sides will break away as most wont or cant meet these rules long term.

If they want to kill their premier comp fine. And yes we would be in it we are already in the top 20 european clubs basd on turnover, attendance tv audience etc even before all this spending.

Platini wants to sit doen and thing about what he is saying before opening his big gob. I am on holiday in Croatia at the moment and they are obsessed with the PL. The match it over their own teams and have no interst at all in the Italian or Spanish leagues. Same in many countries through the world.

Lets just get there first and see what happens. I have total faith in our owners never to let anything like this happen to us.
And if we can break the top 4 in the next year or 2, remember that is going to leave 1 of the current top 4 without the CL money for a few years before this comes in. Then lets see how they balance thier books and if this affects them.

The problem with this tool Platini is that he is sadly very typical of the French as a nation. The Arabs and others are buying into the Premier as it is perceived to be the best league in the world so it both satisfies their egos and also acts as a significant vehicle to make money.

So, by definition the French leagues are second/third/fourth best and don't get the money or fame. Under such circumstances the French mentality is not to try to emulate the best but to throw their toys out of their pram and sulk. If they can't beat it they seek to change the rules to favour French interests at the expense of everyone else (the best example of this being the EEC).

Whatever football is, above all it's a business and some businesses grow big and strong and therefore attract investment. Others are seen to have big potential and are availabile at a sensible price so someone with lots of money buys them, invests heavily and eventually expects the returns. If they don't get the returns, they sell it.

Other businesses stay small for ever and soldier on as best they can. The weakest fall by the wayside; that's the natural cycle of things.

You can be sure that if the Sheik had bought a French club rather than City, Platini would have stayed at playschool and kept very quiet.

This kind of discussion reminds me of articles written in the Daily Mail/Express where they scaremonger about a Government White Paper on some ludicrous/unthinkable law coming in.

They just publish to see the reaction it causes. If it looks like trouble they quietly bin it.

Restrictions and regulations will only hurt the clubs already up to their neck in debt. We have enough clout to play to any set of rules. There are lots of ways of enhancing revenue that are already accepted that we can use. Image rights and Friendly Foreign tours. i dont see it as being a problem.

Uefa has done this when they revamped the champs lge they don't like it now because English football is getting investors who can blown the Spanish and Italians out of the water for the best players and now they don't like it they only want the same teams in champs lge and now city threaten the Lot of them all it is anti-city and anti-English i think its racism on Uefas side and they say they want to kick it out pmsl

This is potentially the most serious threat to the club. It is a very real threat, and it really could happen. Lots of people are saying that this is pie in the sky, without explaining why they think it won't happen.

It's a mistake to think that Platini is the driving force between these moves. Of course he agrees with the ideas as they touch on his concerns regarding 'financial doping', but the truth is that the momentum behind them comes from the big hitters in European football. Platini has, in fact, said as much. There is no way that UEFA could enforce these plans without the backing of the erstwhile G14, but these plans have been instigated by the G14. The really worrying sign is that Chelsea have jumped on these plans, which clearly suggests to me that they are targeted at City and that the big clubs, not least the sky 4, are (behind the scenes) pushing them as hard as they can. They see this as the only way to neuter our threat to their cosy cartel.

I would agree that they were unrealistic if they were opposed by the big clubs. But they are desired by the big clubs, because (a) they fear City and (b) the wage costs have spiralled so much that running a club as an ego-trip is now too expensive even for the Morattis, Berlusconis and Abramoviches.

The prospect of us successfully challenging these rules on our own are grim. Nor do we want to rely on loopholes in them (I imagine they will be drafted broadly). Therefore it is crucial that we qualify for the CL before they come into effect, and it is also crucial that we make as many political alliances as possible with Europe's bigs. (That Barca friendly: significant, very significant.)

For the record, I really cannot see how these rules could be challenged in a court of law.

Do you really believe we would allow this to happen?

Right, Al-Jazeera FC buys Messi, who then signs on as a loan deal to City.

Another point that hasn't been discussed it that such a move would take a significant amount of value out of football. Salaries will be less. Transfers would be less. And ultimately clubs will not be worth as much. Try selling that idea to Messrs Glazer and Hicks/Gillette.

It will also kill tv revenue from broadcasting overseas, i.e. the US and others. I'd think if salaries fall, transfers etc, the money needed to continue broadcasting worldwide won't be there either.
