The Pandora Papers

I see we are at the ‘but, but, BLAIR!’ stage of the argument.

Man stopped being PM nearly 15 years ago, and he is still far more competent then any of the arseholes that followed him.

And I didn’t even vote for the guy.
No one is 'but blair' anything I do wish you would be honest about what you post. It has been said, by me, that the war criminal is the only politician ex or otherwise to be named in these leaks.

I don't know, but there are only so many buildings like that around Marylebone and Mayfair. They set up a UK company to purchase it and take it under UK tax regime, so whilst the loophole remains it is a less desirable asset for any potential buyer.
They needed an office ffs it did not have to be in Marylebone or Mayfair but of course all the others were registered here and liable for stamp duty. Further they set up a company in a tax haven to avoid the duty, they didn't set it up to bring it under the UK tax regime. Iirc they saved 335k !!!

They needed an office in a central location, what clients do you think they are serving with their legal consultancy in a building that costs six million pounds that is only the size of a large townhouse?

You haven't even bothered to read what you are talking about, what you are saying isn't accurate or true.

Four months prior to the purchase, the Blairs formed a UK company called Harcourt Ventures, in which they both held a 50% stake and which was registered for VAT. Their new company then acquired the shares in Romanstone, the Alzayani family business that owned 30 Harcourt Street, which was a wholly owned subsidiary of their property group Riverton Capital.

The Tory Party is floating on a sea of Russian cash. Lubov Chernukhin, one of the biggest female donors in recent British political history, has given the Tories £2.1m. Chernukhin, reportedly donates enough to the Tories to qualify for membership of a small group of ultra-rich donors who meet monthly with Johnson and his chancellor, Rishi Sunak. What this exclusive club discusses is not made public. “She’s deep in the party,”

Personally, I‘m more interested in the dirty cash laundered through the City, how much of it is going to the Tory Party and what access and favours this brings. We’ve already had the business of donors paying for Johnson’s flat refurb and what favours they get in return. We also had Cameron and the Greensill dirty lobbying scam about 3 months ago.

Meanwhile, I’ll leave you to rant about a guy who left office 15 years, who seems to have pulled off an accounting dodge on stamp duty.

so what's Pep meant to have done? squirrelled away some cash in andorra?

Legally earned a salary in Qatar, then legally transferred said money into an Andorran account. Then legally declared said account to Spanish Government during a sort of amnesty period.

The papers reveal that he's avoided paying taxes to the Spanish state. However, it's not illegal. In fact, it's actually quite basic and for a sum of less than £500k (which is peanuts compared to some of the other leaks).

i see. is that <£500k tax saved or <£500k declared (and therefore tax saved way less)

Amuses me that the media refer to Andorra as offshore when it's in the mountains about 50 miles from his home town.

<£500k declared. Also, I'm not sure how Spanish tax works, I don't think it's too dissimilar to UK tax, but because he earned the money whilst residing abroad, he wouldn't have to pay income tax on it. So we're literally talking about nothing. He hasn't defrauded the Spanish taxman in any way.
