I learned today off the radio that the rape laws do not require consent - its a word not in there. If anything goes to trial it seems its up to the accuser to prove the accused was not given consent whereas just about everywhere else its the reverse. Also many of the accused relied on the defence of "well her husband said it was ok so I took that as consent" - such a backward country

Not a backwards country, but an archaic, paternalistic and misogynistic law that treats women more as property to be used and abused, as opposed to equals.

Hard to even give a nod and a wink while unconscious! And, not for nothing, what “man” wants to fuck an old unconscious woman to get off? It’s fucking disgusting and they should ALL get an hour in the stocks in the town square for their disgusting, inhumane treatment of that poor woman.

Spain recently changed their rape law to include lack of consent, whereas previously it was not a factor.

This comment makes no sense. If consent isn't a relevant factor for the definition then the victim doesn't need to prove there wasn't consent.

Marital rape is an aggravating factor in France btw.

The UK added consent to the law in 2003. Prior to that rapists could have unreasonable and mistaken belief in consent.
