Right, this morning the Daily Fail ran one of its myriad negative non-stories about City (dressed up as a joke), which alleged that Roberto Mancini had fallen asleep watching the game yesterday.

"It wasn't that bad, Roberto! Mancini nods off at the Etihad"....blah, blah, blah, ran the headline, supported by a photo of Bobby slumped in his chair with his eyes shut just after Zab had shot tamely at Friedel.

Some on here have taken that story as being no more than a poor attempt at humour. Others have sensed something more sinister, namely that the paper concerned has spent the better part of 2 years making up crap about City and is in this instance simply having yet another dig, but disguising it via a light hearted tone. The accusation being thrown at the latter camp by the former is that they are being paranoid.
Well, maybe, maybe not, but the piece has now been removed from the Mail after apparent intervention by Vicky Kloss, and my question to those who say there is no agenda against City, is why would the club bother to take this action over a 'joke' article?
City are trying to build a larger fanbase both domestically and internationally, and I wonder whether the club is finally tiring of the press's onslaught and its potential impact on our 'recruitment campaign'. What was it Joseph Goebbels said? "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State".

Every time cnuts like the Fail print their snidey shit, every time people like Patrick effing Barclay sneer to the world that we have "no philosophy", every time bastards like Brian Glanville claim on air that we are a "ghastly abomination of a club", every time the cameras follow Balotelli to the bench, every time Irani, Christian, Chiles, that slug Green and the rest of the rag loving fuckers in the media wisecrack about our "empty seats", it's damage done to our reputation. Maybe not on here, because we're all wise to it, maybe not to those discerning enough to question what they're being told, but certainly amongst the hordes out there in the world who believe every word they're fed. I've lost count of the times I've had to correct mates that support other clubs, when they've started to regurgitate some myth about City they've heard on Talkshite or SSN as gospel.
Whatever, whether I'm befuddled by paranoia or not, is it not time to start taking a tougher line with these people? Just asking

this happens a lot, I don't even think they believe it most of the time but they love saying it.
Its about time the press office at City started doing sometihng about the lies that are spewed in the press.

you're missing the point. Prolonged and sustained lies across the media will hit their mark.
Next time you're on holiday and the taxi driver regales you with made up shit about City you'll end up putting him straight, he#ll then try and overcharge you cos you've pissed him off. This in turn will piss you off and a stand up row will ensue, resulting in you getting a twatting off the local fuzz. And that you can't ignore.
Ha! Very true, even though it was probably meant in jest. I'm sick and tired of hearing the same old, media-influenced crap from the muppets in the pubs and cafés over here. They rarely watch us play, but they quote stuff they've read online or in the papers. Every single football-related discussion refers to City as kjøpelaget - we're a buying club. It's become a tag word for us, just like empty seats or everything they say about Mario. There's no point trying to educate the unfortunate sods, so I just let them spout on, or I'll end up carrying out stonerblue's post! But such a tactic of ignoring just lets them gain the upper hand. They continue to spread unfounded gossip, which gets taken as the gospel truth.

A while back, the media were on about Mourinho. Now it's Guardiola. Do we let ourselves become an easy target? Do the likes of Stoke or Everton get the same treatment? I'm almost desperate for a good, long period of managerial stability at our club, and I'll be well pissed off if the vultures from the press end up hounding out what we have right now. Goodness knows how the constant media pressure really is affecting Mancini, Platt and the rest. Yes, you can ignore or appear to ignore, but you've got to have skin of leather not to let the constant clawing get to you. We need to get tougher, but without lashing out. I love the way Platt dealt with the journalists before the Spurs game. More of that, please. Put them down and get them to stay down.

My favourite article by the DM recently has to be this one:

After reading it I sat there scratching my head for about 10 minutes asking myself: WTF?

I have emailed Vicky Kloss to ask her why these twats aren't being banned. The journo scum lay off the rags and Bacon because they get banned from the swamp at the drop of a hat.
Why are these twats being allowed to dis the fans, the manager and the club on a daily basis?

You can't just ban people for asking questions in a Q&A session. OK the questions veer off topic, but don't they always? Besides, Ferguson is just a bully and using his behaviour as a benchmark is not a good idea.

City aren't very clever behind the scenes, that's why we get nailed in the press at every available opportunity (read: all the time).

You can ban people for being disrepectful when they are soaking in your hospitality.

Listened to Big Joe Corrigan on TalkShite yesterday and Keys asked him if all the bad press City were getting was from 'the disciples over the road'. So even Talkshite believe that there is an issue with parts of the media, which ironically they are part of. Irani is a cnut of the highest order, shit cricketer and even worse presenter.

The best thing we can do about that is to sing the manager's name louder than ever. Do it non-stop against Villa to make a point that the jackals can't ignore

As I understand this never reached the back page, but was pulled from the Mails website. Therefore although I agree that printed media is dying, fans will still log onto that papers website for upto date news reports and report back to Blue Moon.

I'll still wonder why. I'm sure people search out the negatives, confirmation bias and all that.

I'd much rather read the many top notch City bloggers out there.

Its the nature of the beast I`m afraid.Personally I don`t get too aggrieved with headlines that somehow show us in a bad light, but piss taking appears to upset the majority of Blue Mooners.
Think this latest episode was probably the straw that broke the camels back, with the Club contacting The Mail and its sudden disappearance from their website.
You only have to see the amount of new threads, with the major talking point "did you see what he said, they said, can`t be right" etc.
I suppose with me being an old fart I`ve seen and heard it all before,so therefore I don`t get as uptight as some of the younger ones.
But at the end of the day, everyone has a view and a right to comment.Even if I disagree with the young whipasnappers. ;)

Agreed

One thing that I do find baffling on these pages is that some people do not accept that there is a negative media agenda against the club. I'm old enough to have heard all the jokes a thousand times and certainly don't lose any sleep over the way the club is reported in the press. I can understand why fans say "ignore it", "it's jealousy" etc etc, they're correct and we should ignore it and make our point in the way we support the club.
However the problem is real and I believe harmful to the reputation of the club in the long term. It is also unethical, unprofessional and uncalled for, because of that I believe that the club should address the problem.
How the club sets about that is their decision. It seems obvious that the current policy (whatever that policy is) isn't working. Maybe it's time for the club to make access to the players and staff more structured and less open. Maybe the club needs to investigate more thoroughly when "senior sources close to the club" have negative comments attributed to them. Maybe the club needs to consider imposing sanctions on individual reporters that consistently publish articles that are untrue and unfounded. The lack of privacy at Carrington is obviously a problem that the club are keen to address and, in the meantime, maybe the players could be a liitle more discreet with their behaviour.

A fine post.

The lies and bollox that some of these so called journo's peddle is water off a ducks back to most Blues. But their consumers and the uninformed lap it up and it becomes true to them through repetition. Who doesn't endure regular comments from medja educated plastic rag numpties who know no better and who simply regurgitate the drivel they're spoon fed by TalkShit etc?

We should adopt exactly the same hard line tactics that BaconFace uses and deny access for the worst offenders. It won't hurt us any more than it currently does as their anti-City/ pro-rag bias is already clear for all to see anyway.

My motto for our dealings with the press would be this: respect is a two-way street. Show respect and be respected. Offer none and get none in return.
