The Political Correlation Between the US and UK...

America could use some grassroots movement among it's christian right centered around ideals of peacefullness and a compassionate society. It's questionable how the GoP dominates so much of the christian conservative ellectorate while supporting interventionist millitary and harsh socio-economic policy's.Christ was rather pro sharing, less about the greed, more a pacifist type too.

In Belgium atleast we had that with the party formed by the priest Adolph Daens. It played a rather crucial role in the social reforms we had by getting a lot of the christian conservatives to support it too. Best belgian movie ever made (Daens) is a flick about him, easy to recommend it.

Afcourse, it can neither be underestimated how much the social differences between Flemmish and Wallonian played a part back then, it's why Daens his christian conservative party nowadays is called "christian democrats and Flemish".

Perhaps more on topic is the notion how much the identity of the christians in the USA has historicly been infleunced by the Brittish. Especially support for the Zionistl project both in ideological an practical terms is rather conspicious. I believe certain Puritans historicly had some rather weird views about how certain political events should lead to a "good old apocalypse".

This is quite interesting, but you would have to understand who 'The Tea Party' were and how that mob affected GOP policy and led the way to #45's presidency. How they made it okay for greed to be good, for it to be 'America first' and to isolate themselves from the world.

The only reason there is a fight back from Progressives IS 'The Tea Party' and how they changed the landscape of American politics.

Not exactly successfully. There will not be a socialist government in the US in your lifetime and there’s not been one in two generations in the U.K.

Again, nobody asked for 'socialism' as it once was.

Why isn't this clear for you lot?

If I'm serving the public, I'd rather my taxes go towards said public for roads and hospitals and social care, rather than to Lords that sleep on the job in Westminster, than weapons of an unlikely war, than to banks forever on the take after gambling with our money etc., etc.

Your world wide policies are merely dressed up in sheep's clothing.

It is designed to get the maximum for the richest at the expense of the poorest.

Who said it was best for Western society to have an ill educated rich man to lead the world over a well educated poorer man?

Money = power and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Tell me which people are 'happy' in this "miserable condition" right now?

When will we ever learn to switch off this rinse and repeat cycle...?

Then it’s not socialism.

You know my views on Trump. You know I think America is a basket case vis a vis politics and the U.K. isn’t far behind.

Universal healthcare should be a human right, but anyone suggesting so in the states is considered a communist. I agree with what you say and what you’d like to happen, I just disagree with the label I guess.

It's not the first time I've come against labelling as a stumbling block.

I'm nearer a Democratic Socialist than anything. I don't mind that you make your wealth. Cool.

Sure, enjoy it, just pay your people a Human worth, so they don't struggle with rising costs that you benefit from and pay a bit more to the social world you take from and hide from; infrastructure, police, teachers, fire service. You know, societal things.

The 'royal' you, not you, you.

You know what I mean...

Social Democracy is the ultimate.

So in essence you are a liberal then, social democrat is just another tag word for a liberal ideal of capitalist freedoms with a conscience enough to try and support society.

Not my cup of tea, but better than being conservative and completely despising society.

What I'm getting from this, is that you simply want to raise taxes on the people you consider 'Rich.'
That has been tried, both here and elsewhere, and results in an overall tax take reduction, so the laudable
things you'd like for a perfect society become even less attainable because of this policy.
If this isn't the case, then my apologies, but I fail to see what else you would implement.

In a nutshell - Populism - driven by extremely rapid advances in technology/computerization/robots/AI - and the consequent displacement of numerous blue collar - and soon to be - white collar - workers.

I'll reply to both of you here.

We live in a world where it is expected that one person is lauded above others through one means or another. Tiers of power are created, no matter what, and has been through time immemorial.

We cannot attain 'perfection' as it doesn't exist as that's a Utopian ideal impossible to reach with Human Beings.

What IS attainable is a fairness for Human dignity, Human worth; it's why you see people risking precious life to reach places that they hope will give them this.

What I don't understand is why you believe the perpetual Lie you're sold about people being paid more?

Companies are allowed to raise prices, so where are their profits going to come from? The Little People.

Who feeds the War Machine that the Govs say are needed to protect the Little People? The Little People.

Who pays for the roads, the teachers, the fire/ police/ health service? The Little People.

Who has to pay for the gambling and p*ss taking of the Financial Markets? The Little People.

**********************

I will leave it here as I've deleted quite a rant about wealth, the Living Wage and the Big Lie you guys are sold on.
