Most fair mind people would, people keep saying we can't spend what we have not got, so why spend 8 billion ( and it will be more than that) on Trident, if we can't afford the welfare state we can't afford Trident

Because if we get attacked, we can try dent the aggressor in retaliation.. cos we are really gonna fire nuclear missiles in the future.

It's all about the threat - can't we pretend to have submarines floating about with rockets? instead of paying for something that will never be used. Make the fuckers out of papier-mâché, bit of black paint.. who would know.

Paper mâché would eventually go soggy I guess?

What would be the cost to renew a new fake dry missile?
Anyway, have you never seen Art-Attack? You gotta lace it with bog roll and PVA glue and then top coat of matt black oil, it would last a while.

Fair point - Neil Buchanan would have made a great pm.

Doesn't trident depend on submarines and deep water ports which only exist in Scotland soon to be an independent country?

This little ruse worked a treat in WW2.

Great thread this, apart from that facetwitch post.

These arseholes are nothing new, they had their day in the sun in the '60's, this Millie Tant ranter reminds me of Socialist Workers Party members then, all middle class, living in the nicest parts of town, none of them working class, none of them working.
They come back like the herpes virus now and again, but disappear after a bit of treatment.

Don't see the need for trident at all stick the nukes in the ground, everyone will know they are there, if we get attacked then we can launch them, if we don't well I'll be dead and they are welcome to a radiated planet.

Because everyone will know they're there, is why they are placed in submarines, their whereabouts are unknown, it's a well conceived military decision.
