The centenary Tour De France route has been announced this morning, reasonably balanced but perhaps not as hard as some were expecting.

Three shorter time trials – one team, one with climbs and one conventional.

Mt. Ventoux (MTF) , Col de Peyresourde, Col De la Madeleine all in there along with a double climb of Alpe d’Huez (MTF). No Col Du Tourmalet.

Potentially perhaps a few too many sprint finishes, but the last one on the Champs Elysess should be special as it’s due to concude after ten at night. The opening stage is a sprint too so Cav (in his new Omega team) could be in with a great shot of getting the yellow jersey.

Bradley Wiggins has now revealed that he intends focus on the Giro next year and will go to the tour as a domestique for Froome.

Did u see the interviews on Eurosport afterward? Cav & Wiggins taking the piss on air; it could've gone tits up very easily!

Froome said course not as tough as he expected; thought I detected the merest hint of disappointment in his voice

I did yeah, you definitely got the sense the TV director had his finger hovering over the 'go to advert now!!!' button, especially when they mentioned Lance! I think Brad was more concerned about showing off his coat to be honest - very nice it was too.

Don't think you'll be far from the line up there Rascal. I'd be pretty surprised though if Thomas doesn't go.

I was thinking: Froome, Wiggins, EBH, Uran, Henao, Thomas, Porte, Stannard, Cutaldo.

But it depends how they intend to split their resources, they run the risk of targeting all three tours and diluting their chances at each, not an easy balancing act. I think they might try Tiernan-Locke at the Giro and then also send him and the other two young promising climbers they've signed to la Vuelta, especially if the rumours are true that there will be even more mountain top finishes there this year.

EDIT: Scrap that, I've just read that they're making it eight to a team rather than nine for next years tour. I'll drop Cutaldo...but then I've just remembered Christian Knees....god this is too tough!

At last, cycling is the new golf!

I'm looking to buy a Bianchi road bike. Any bike heads on here with tips and hints, decent cycling routes around the North West. I'm looking at spending about a grand, maybe more. Been to Evans to have a gander but not sure about buying brand new for my first proper bike.

If you're serious about spending that sort of dosh, get your lycra cladded arse down to Halfords. The range of Boardman road bikes are second to none,£1000 would bethe equivalant to a £1800 Bianchi, just compare the spec's online.I'm gutted I bought a Trek,if I'd have waited 6 month I'd have got a far better spec'd Boardman for the same money. In effect I payed for the name.

Anyone been following the transfer movements over the winter?

Rogers has left Sky and signed with Saxo. With Dowsett moving to Movistar too, there could be an awful lot of work for Stannard to get through next season.

Saxo have put together a really strong squad so the 'Sky Train' could be in for a real battle in the mountains.

Katusha haven't been granted a WT licence so where that will leave Rodriguez and Moreno I'm not sure.

Surprised to see the 8.30 am sprint down Park Rd Timperley isn't on the agenda.

Think the gridlock made that a non starter !! Although that is a hell of a climb by the station

I don’t know mate. On the face of it the lack of a world tour licence may not be too much of an issue for them; Katusha is a big enough team that they could reasonably expect to be granted wild cards to most of the races they’d want to compete in anyway. The question though is why haven’t they been given a licence? I believe they topped the rankings last year and when people were discussing the teams in danger of missing out on a spot Katusha’s name never came into the reckoning at all, so you have to wonder is there some story as to why they’ve been omitted that could impact on the teams future? Watch this space I guess.

Good shout on Kiriyenka, I forgot about that one.

I can’t wait for the new season to get under way, I’ve never really followed the spring classics on the cobbles before, but watching Lombardia and Milan-Torino at the back end of last year has fired my interest in the one day races, I’m counting down the days already!

Currently in training (use that word training very loosely) for a 100 mile sportive in the summer, very very new to the sport but enjoying it at the moment
