The richest 62 people in the world

Why 62? What a bizarre number. Are the next 38 just worth about a grand each?
Because they are the number who make more than half the world's population, having 73 people who make the same as 52% of the world's population doesn't offer symmetry

I read something earlier that said 5 years ago it was 388 people, then down to 200 and so forth until we've reached the point of it being only 62.
Basically the top few are getting even richer.

Interesting, so capitalism rather than spread the wealth actually imbeds it then.

I have always thought both capitalism and socialism (though neither has ever really been tried) have huge flaws which is why we live in a model we call capitalism but in reality is actually as close to socialism as it is to capitalism.

Must admit that immigration, globalisation , digitisation and technology are pushing us towards a more extreme and true version of capitalism and I wonder long term will governments die and we become truly capitalist or will their be a big push back and we actually head backwards to a more socialist place. For centuries we have sat on the fence and it simply isn't sustainable we will have to either pare back the pursuit of wealth and the richest or we will have to accept it is each man for themselves.

It will be very conflicting for many peoples simple right or left views of the world as the far right will find itself railing against capitalism and allied with the firm left against It's natural allies and the centre left will find itself allied with the centre right .

I know it's bollocks
I used to pray that Mcmanaman would be horrifically maimed during the week so he couldn't be seen pointing round Maine rd on the weekend
The odious **** is still alive and still doing a similar amount of work on the pitch to this day

Was he helping with the demolition or something? Only played for us in the coms/ etihad stadium. (Soz, only just started reading this thread and original post is on page 1.) :-)

Absolute bollocks, resources are and always have been and always will.

Remember some Yanqui suggesting that there would have been no Iraqi War had Kuwait's 'wealth' been in carrots and not oil! I've read a fair bit about the two world wars and can't recall either Kaiser Bill or Adolf marching off to war with a cross or crescent.

That's a bit of a simplistic way of looking at it. Capitalism is unrivaled at creating wealth, but it leads to gross inequalities. The question is, does it make those outside the super-rich better off than they otherwise would be? I think there's a strong argument that it does, although that isn't the 'be all and the end all' of the matter. Gross inequality per se creates social problems which need to be factored into the equation.

The key to the house of cards remaining intact are the professional middle classes. Once the rich and powerful alienate them, then their party is in serious danger of coming to an end. Keep them happy and any social unrest can be contained as it will never attain critical mass. Any revolution that has delivered the goods has had the doctors, lawyers and teachers on board. The latter is the only grouping that could conceivably currently get on board. That may change at some point, of course - and it wouldn't be the end of the World if it did. Things need shaking up from time to time.
