The Rolling Stone Magazine 500 Greatest Songs. Pick your fav

It's a terrible list but one thing in particular stood out as taking the piss:

243. Love Shack, The B-52's

You can tell that it's an American list because there are certain bands that they just don't get and because of this they've blanked them or given them a token one song. In contrast they love The Beatles hence them dominating the list so much.

Ever played any of Dylan's songs then?

just my opinion mate, dont get upset

I dont like him.

I don't like him much either to be honest but he writes some good stuff. I just think that when someone covers his music 9 times out of 10 it's better than the Dylan original. Like a Rolling Stone I find very dull and turgid. I don't even think it's Dylan's best let alone the best song ever.

...whereas I do.

I do as well, am a great enthusiast in fact.

But I do think with polls like these, a lot of the music journalists who vote do so on the basis of what they think they should vote for based on orthodox, mainstream, critical opinion rather than anything else. So you get the same artists coming at the top - generally most of them in the veteran category - and the same songs by those artists voted for on the basis of being their most famous, not necessarily best, work.
