The Roma match has convinced me...

I quite like Zucculini with his work rate and sprints into the box. Hope he has a future with us.

Hooray.
i thought i'd be dreaming about this kid last night as my post about him pages back was roundly ignored. And when i watched the second half at 10pm last night there was no sign of him.

Saw him make three or four crunching tackles which is exactly what the team lacked last season.

One thing that was evident from the second half is that Lopes, Barker, and Iheanacho instinctively want to go at the opposition, and at pace. That may have been a result of Roma having pressed us further back, thereby allowing them space to take the ball and run, but I think it is what they are accustomed to doing. Sometimes our play can be too ponderous, with Nasri, Toure, and Silva needlessly pirrouetting and allowing the opposition defence to get behind the ball, so I hope, as the youngsters break through into the senior side, that their natural instrincts aren't entirely curtailed and that they're encouraged to commit defenders and go for the jugular.

Garcia, Lopes, Nacho, Denayer have a great chance of being promoted. Anyone know when an announcement will be made with regards to this?

I dont think it would get officially announced. Most of the players in that age group are registered to play prem games as U21 players so no issue on squad lists etc. They dont announce who is training with the first team although they tend to always include a few younger players.

I fully expect those three (excluding Garcia) to be permanently with the senior team and the best indication will be those travelling with the squad and named in the team / on the bench. If MDM and Aguero are not going to feature against West Brom I'd expect Denayer and Nacho on the bench at least. Rony is up against a longer list of senior players so we might have to wait a bit to see his name on a team + subs list.

What I liked was the way (especially ) Nacho and Garcia were showing for the ball from seasoned pros. Very good to see, very confident in their own ability

I found it fascinating that talksport and several other media outlets posted negative comments about the size of the crowd compared to when Liverpool played in Aus. No mention of when Liverpool played the MCG that it was on a weekend rather than a Tuesday night - which from my memory of living there is a dead night for sports - also no mention of Harry Kewell and Craig Johnson connecting Liverpool to a lot of Ozzie fans who travelled huge distances to watch the game. All things considered the crowd was decent and I suspect the crowd v Real will be a big one. You have to laugh at the extent some journalists will go to to put a negative spin on us. The good thing is that we, the fans know how exciting the future is - to play so many teenagers against a decent side was great and their performances were so much better than the fringe players we have seen in previous years pre-season. The future has to be adding just a few signings to compliment our academy. Handled right I could see three or four in our youth set up becoming regular first team players, only Southampton seem to have that kind of hit rate.

I am sure when Joe was being interviewed after the match the Aussie presenter mentioned that on Friday against Real it will be with 90,000 in attendance.

I find social media engagement an interesting barometer.

United are way out ahead on 65m FB likes and 5.6m Twitter followers
Liverpool 25m FB, 4.5m Twitter
City 19m, 2.5m

Really not that far off Liverpool. We are picking up new fans in markets not yet focused on by the big clubs and the younger generations in markets they are.

Thanks for that info, very little we can do about more mature markets except to attract those who support success and let time attract others but the global plan is seemingly working in football new markets.
