The Scottish Politics thread

Proves her point really, personal predjudice started getting in the way of proper debate on issues.
Proves what point?

Sturgeon is a poisonous, horrible politician. Have a good look into her past. She hasn't taken Scotland forward. When she is banging on about independence all she is doing is deflecting from the social issues affecting Scotland. She has been an abject failure.

Just out of interest, do you live in Scotland and experience the social issues you mention?

Poisonous and horrible is an Express headline with zero thought beyond that, and is a matter of opinion of position.
But she was far less of both than her predecessor, and potentially the follower, and even rival party supporters here regularly acknowledge that.

She absolutely has taken Scotland forward. In her first term, leaps and bounds. Both socially and economically. Then the politics of the Tory government, the damn ignorance of Brexit voters, and a terrible global pandemic then took Scotland backwards. I don't think anyone else would have navigated that storm better myself.

But I do think it was time for a change, and now all that matters is who is next. This could be one of those delicate careful what you wish for situations.

Its not clear who will take it forward. I suspect it will be one of the Senior brigade. My preference would be for a youngster though. Kate Forbes is smart and principled.

How can you type positively about someone who wants to break Scotland away from England - it is a crazy idea. Might have worked in the 1970s - just after oil was discovered in the North Sea, but now? not so much. It amuses me to the max that she has fallen on the alter of culture-wars/woke nonsense, I hope the worm has turned on this one.

And as regards your other point, whatever happened to Ruth Davisdson? She was a person of real talent - will she ever come back?
Scotlands independence will take it out of the United Kingdom. Its not part of England to break away from.

To answer about the hypocrite Davidson, after fighting hard to keep Scotland part of the UK by promising it was the best way for it to stay in the EU she took a career break and then fucked off to that great democratic institution, The House of Lords. She shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Sturgeon as a talented politician.

Easy. I was typing positively about her personal qualities, not her policies. I made that very clear.

Agree with you about Ruth Davidson.

Do you live in Scotland ? Doesn't sound like it because she's made Scotland a better place to live than the UK government has made the rest of the UK. perfect ,no, but better. Either that or Scottish voters are stupid to keep electing her by big margins.
