The Scottish Politics thread

If the Scots want out, let it be. Personally Tony Blair‘s second worse move (first was the Iraq war) was to give the Scots and Welsh devolved powers. It would have been better if he had given England the same, but as it stands, we seem to have no voice.

Did Brexit not give you your country back?

No voice? The Parliament is your voice. Wales, NI and Scotland have zero impact on it. Scotland votes SNP and still gets run by the Tories.

The whole of the UK votes in the Westminster elections as 45 SNP MP’s prove.

Don’t be silly trying to claim Scotland has no impact because it’s as bad as the post your replies to.

When Conservative MPs of just English constituencies have an overall majority in parliament it is perfectly fair to say that the minor parties have negligible impact.

Do they/we though?

I’m thinking Mark Renton called it right.

Not really mate. The numbers don’t lie and whichever way England votes results in our Government irrespective of how Scotland votes. If Scotland had returned a red wall of Labour at the last election the Tories would still have won. For as long as our politics diverge this will be at the heart of the fundamental issue.

True. Ten DUP MPs held disproportionate sway in 2017. It’s sometimes a case of how the cards fall. A time could yet come when the SNP block in Westminster plays Kingmaker.

45 Labour MP’s has far more chance of disposing Tory rule than 45 SNP MP’s.

Vote Labour, get Tory has to be one of the worst election slogans ever, especially when vote SNP, get Tory rings even more true when it comes to the National picture.

The nation should get behind Starmer if for no other reason than to kill the Tories for the next 10-15 years at least and then see where it leads.

Meanwhile Scotland can vote SNP to its heart content in Holyrood elections.
