The whole story is a pack of lies, and about as believable as the campervan fiasco.

The bottom line is that he wasn’t arsed about how much data he was using, or the cost of this, as he simply assumed that he wouldn’t face any consequences for it and that somebody would pick up the bill. He’s brought his family into it at the eleventh hour in a desperate attempt to save his neck and he’s being entirely disingenuous.

Well yeah, also the classic expenses thing of not giving a shit what it costs because someone else is paying. No-one paying themselves would be on that data plan and not check before they go on holiday.

Not one bit of his story stacks up, not least the idea that his kids would be watching the old firm game but he wouldn’t, and he wasn’t aware that his kids were watching the game, when they’re all on holiday together.

His initial proposal for paying the bill was a corker as well - Parliament can pick up most of it but I’ll offer to pay three grand from my Parliament-funded office expense account. Unbelievable how these people operate.

First thing I do when entering a new land is turn mobile roaming off if I haven’t sorted out a package.
