The Scottish Politics thread

Is the north West funded by the rest of the UK? Or Wales? Or the Midlands? Because all are subject to the Barnett Formulae. London and the SE fund all of us. Scotland gets handed its pocket money like every other region and you want to tell us how to spend it too.
Is the North West governed by a party campaigning for independence, whilst simultaneously running a huge deficit as part of its socialist agenda which can only be maintained if the North West remains part of the UK?

I must have missed that one.

That’s a new one lol

I’m English, live work and pay tax in Scotland.

Is that ok?
Are you sure you're English?

That reply came across as Scottish. You must be assimilating well.

:)

You have genuine skin in the game. I don't as I'm on the outside. I visit Glasgow a few times a year but that doesn't mean I'm engaged in the local politics. I'm trying to understand it but failing miserably.

Well yes partially.

From ONS

London saw the largest change in its net fiscal balance, moving from a £40.5 billion net fiscal surplus to a £7.2 billion net fiscal deficit, which is the smallest net fiscal deficit in the UK.

The North West and the West Midlands both had the largest net fiscal deficit with £49.9 billion and £37.1 billion respectively.

On a per person basis, London had the lowest net fiscal deficit per person at £800 per head, while Northern Ireland had the highest net fiscal deficit at £9,500 per head. The UK average for net fiscal deficit per head was £4,740.

The only difference is Scotland wants out of a broken UK which has to all intents and purposes implemented trading sanctions on itself.

All very interesting but you didn’t answer the question.

Is the North West governed by an independence party, and are the electorate in the NW voting for an independence party, whilst running an enormous deficit that can only be sustained by remaining part of the UK?

No it’s not running for independence but maybe you should look at that.

What don't you understand mate?

The Tories obviously will not get any seats.
It's Labour who will inflict the damage.

Labour couldn't inflict damage on a rhubarb crumble. The state of the SNP just now, they should be wiping them out. But as the useless self preservation party that they are, they will win a number of seats and that will be seen as some big re-birth. Which will last all of 2 minutes (relatively speaking).

Just listening to the lawyer for many of the postmasters in Scotland criticising the UK government for not including Scotland in their bill to remove convictions in the rest of the UK but excluding Scotland on the basis that Judicial matters are devolved (Hasn’t stopped them interfering in other matters though.). If I were first minister I would now be bringing forward a bill in the Scottish Parliament including an eye watering compensation scheme for all Scottish postmasters affected by this scandal, to be paid for by the Post Office. Then wait for Westminster to intervene…. ….Perhaps that’s why I’m not a politician?
