The Scottish Politics thread

It's that kind of hypocrisy that makes people think they're all the same. Wankers.
There is one difference though, in Westminster there is no way of making them, in Scotland the SNP don’t have a majority so if Parliament wants an election one can be forced.

So we will get yet another First Minster crowned by their own in a minority government.

It was bad enough when the Tories did it, the SNP amongst many others told us plenty of times but it seems when it suits, they will just do the exact same thing again themselves.

As I posted only if the rest of the parliaments Mps allow it, they can vote the SNP out any time they like, they could even form a coalition and appoint a different first minister, and call an election if they felt strongly about it.

Maybe, but it is not like that decision rests entirely with the SNP, or any one party, in power or not. Not without an outright majority at least, which we know is almost impossible to get anyway up here.

Same principal tho, just slightly different circumstances, Blackford is a hypocrite.

Not really because the Scotish parliament doesn’t need an election to change the government. The whole Scottish system is designed that no one party should get a majority, at the time because they feared a permanent Labour government. Except the SNP broke the system just the once. In general though, and currently,Scottish MPs are always in a position to change the first minister if they choose to, without an election being called, unlike Westminster.
If Holyrood doesn’t want the new leader to be FM, then they won’t be.

You are missing the point. Blackford was calling for there to be an election when the Torys changed their leader without an election which they can constitutionally do. Now his own party is doing the same, he doesnt want one.
Both parties need a majority or a coalition, neither have to go to the electorate.

Which party wants an election though? Certainly not the Tories, Labour won’t be too confident either. If the SNP get a decent leader they’d do ok in any election.

Don’t get why the tories would support a no confidence, to force an election in Scotland they can’t win and would lose seats. As for Labour they were in a decent position going into the GE, they still are but forcing Yousaf out may give the SNP a bounce that reduces that advantage a bit.

I think possibly the Torries have forced a vote of no confidence just to make the SNP look even more chaotic than they are with even more negatove headlines? Doubt they would get a bounce at present. But I also agree I can't see people jumping to the Tories anywhere in the UK at present.
